Why would you leave the front shackle? Does the shackle reversal hurt the off-roading capability?
@Whisper_Pickle5 жыл бұрын
As he described, the rear shackle hits the frame under full flex; if it had been left on the front, it wouldn't hit anything. The shackles are designed to move/flex forward and backwards.

Love my 73 cj5! 258, 3 speed 3:73 gears. Thing totally wears you out driving it on the highway! Wiggles to the left, to the right, let off the gas to quick at 65/70 and you're getting squirrely all over the road. Only vehicle I owned where you had to keep your foot on the gas while braking, to keep the sucker straight! Just not built for today's higher speeds lol. 55mph and it's a lot more relaxing.

I agree but I personally run all electric on my diesel swapped highboy. Electric Holley pump. Electric fans on the rad and inter cooler. This thing is used as a pull rig, woods beater, and a daily driver. I found that with the stock mechanical fan even through different variations of shrouds I simply could not cool the entire unit (intercooler, ac condenser and radiator) on a hot day.

I remember this when it was stock bodied and black in Peterson's 4wheel and Offroad. I faithfully followed along with the build articles in the magazine and even got a subscription so as not to miss anything. It was a test mule in many articles. I always liked it because of the psuedo military styling and solid design. However, by far my favorite Jeep from that era was Rick Pewe' (not sure of the correct spelling) flatfender '42 Ford GPW. What a great era for offroad enthusiasts the 90's where. Tons of stock based, low buck, home brew builds back then. I was wheeling my '84 Toyota PU then. 35s on chevy moded leaf springs and a custom ladder bar that was inspired by David's Scrambler. Glad to see she's still alive and well, unlike my Toyota. Sold it long ago.

That's straight a lie, everybody thought Scramblers were cool, and the start of trying to acquire one started, I got one in 96' and I constantly got papers on the windshield everywhere I went, that they wanted to buy it. Friend thought I was exaggerating until they parked one day at the market across from where I was parked, I went to their passenger seat to just talk and some random dude was looking at the Scrambler and left a torn piece of paper, I told my friend, look their it is, just like I told you. Note said, "Hey I saw your cool Jeep and wanted to know if you wanted to sell it." With their number on the paper. Don't know what your talking about, not being popular, they were hella popular. In fact 4Wheel Parts magazine did a spread on a yellow Scrambler with a AMC 360 and that article was the launch point of me wanting one when I already had a Laredo CJ7. Got both. By the way 82' on up were the ones desired, not 81' and under. I had an 84' Laredo version, tilt steer and 5 speed manual with electronic overdrive with full hardtop. The ones no one wanted where the square light Wranglers. Though their springs were solid.

Funny you posted this when you did. The very day I took my 2000 grand cherokee on a trail shortly after a 900 mile trip to Colorado. Then just drove it back yesterday. Nearly no issues. Though more surprisingly, this was also the very day I started looking for a scrambler to buy. Haven't found one yet but we'll see. Almost decided to find a jeep pickup but my brother already has a j2000. Gotta be a bit unique somehow. Wish me luck!
@salvadordollyparton6665 жыл бұрын
Why did you ruin it by making it better? 🤣🤣🤣 Almost makes me want a Jeep, but they just seem a bit too easy and I'm a glutton for punishment. And I like full size rigs, more room for all my crap. Since they usually also double as some sort of work truck. My blazer made a damn fine off road dump, with the dump trailer. Good low first gear, and enough clearance to climb over dirt piles and cross ditches and stuff. But this is a sweet Jeep, and definitely shows exactly why they are so popular. REALLY nice build, like all of Freiburger's stuff that he actually puts effort into.

That rear spring shackle can be fixed by welding a piece of steel tubing onto the bottom of the frame a couple inches back. Use it as the bushing for the shackle bolt. If you’re feeling frisky you can even tap it for a grease zerk. Now *that’s* some high-class modification right there. 💣
