Great project. I’d consider using a 90 degree elbow and a 45 degree elbow for a more natural playing angle.

I find it interresting that you americans glue all ylur pvc pipes. In Germany, we only have pvc waste/ water pipes with fittings and rubber seals. Just fit it and your done. Also you can allways open and change anything

Instead of putting a hole in the bottom for drainage you should’ve put caps on when your done with chain rope string so you don’t lose the caps or get water in when your done and you don’t mess up the sound at all like it would if you put a hole in it

If you did A-C (abcdefgabc) you could have enough for a basic major and minor scale (which would really be ideal as a minimum standard) and you could use a guitar tuner to get the pitches close

What?? What makes it so expensive? Considering Germanys products prices for this, i would say around 40-60€ for the pipes at most, and with the wood you are under 100€ i would say..

$400?? At most I calculated $140'ish. Thin walled PVC and lumber are fairly inexpensive. I`m seeing about 40-50 in lumber and another 60-70 in PVC. Add in paint, glue and hardware for another 20-30. I am curious how you arrived at $400? *edit* If you had to buy the tools as well then yeah that might get quite a bit closer to 400.

Really cool idea, and bet the kids love it. No question on building skill and creativity, awesome. My two questions would be, 1- how long before the kids get bored of that, 2- How long before neighbors call cops. I can imagine couple enjoying a cup of coffee or glass of wine, and little 8 year old Johnny bashing away at it for 20min straight. That toy is only for someone with 20+ acres lol

Great job wearing safety glasses, but you should again emphasis PPE especially when using a Dremel with a cut-off wheel. I've worn glasses since I was a kid, and I actually have a pair with a GREAT scar right in the middle of the lens from a cut-off wheel that shattered during use... if not for those glasses I'd be blind in one eye!!! Yeah, I know: nag, nag, nag... but I'd rather get nagged than be blind. You might like seeing with two eyes also! Carry on and have FUN!

Since the "official" music notes were arbitrarily picked (A=440Hz? Says who?), you really don't need to have exact notes unless you're playing with another instrument. However, for the instrument to sound good, you should pay very careful attention to the ratios of the pipe lengths. Adding 90 degree elbows add length and drilling holes should have some effect (like a clarinet). A two-octave pentatonic scale would sound really good, no matter who's playing it.

Smaller pipe would cause the pitch to raise. Just mess around with it and you can control what the pitch is by choosing how much pipe you use. If you mean playable with little hands, then I would suggest not doing that and sticking with flat items such as a ping pong paddle or a spatula.

So is anybody going to address the elephant in the room that is that Bob has been coming out with more videos, sure, but his projects have seemed way more half-arsed and less thought out? When i first subscribed to Bob, he built things to last, made them look/sound good, and made sure everything looked great.. now he's coming out with these projects that seem much less thought out and more about just throwing out a video as often as possible. the paint job is horrible (i get it, theres "a lot" of pipe to paint, but this video was literally sponsored by Lowe's and a few cans of paint isnt that expensive) the actual design of the instrument doesn't reflect any sort of actual instrument (these are usually made to resemble a marimba or piano) and the tune is completely off. im sorry but Bob is either losing his passion, or his sponsor is shooting him in the foot (either through budget or high demand)
