I work for a kitchen manufacturer called Kvänum in Sweden and we line up all the kitchen doors and drawers when we glue on the veneer on the boards. You can even come to the factory and pick out the actual timber you want in the kitchen. Oak can vary quite a lot which colour it is, same with walnut and elm which is pretty common. Very interesting to see you DIY a kitchen when making them is something I do every day!

My first job out of uni was designing built-in furniture and dressings for luxury yachts, from general aesthetics through to the CNC’d shapes, fixture methods and assembly instructions. I love watching videos like this because it’s always interesting to see how different people tackle similar problems, as well as what not having to worry about weight or not having access to giant CNC machines will do to a design. Keep it up!

Superb. Often KZbin videos make woodworking seem much more exciting than it actually is. In my (modest) projects, I always underestimate the repetitive and tedious side of the hobby. Making a cut is nice, making 100 is boring. Then edge banding, sanding, assembling, finishing. It's a hobby for those who have patience. Somehow your editing keeps it exciting, but yet makes people feel the amount of work. That is good. Side question: what cutting tool do you use to trim edge banding? We see it quickly, but I'd like to know a bit more. I have a ton of edge banding ahead of me...

A problem I have with the Blum draw runners is that, because they mount under the drawers themselves, they can take a fairly large proportionate chunk out of their effective depth. Since drawers are usually rather larger in width and length than depth, this means that they have a greater impact on drawer volume than if the runners were of a type that fitted to the left and right sides instead.

Agreed. I wouldn’t use them for workshop drawers but most of the stuff in my kitchen drawers, like utensils, rolls of foil/cling wrap etc, don’t require much height

In Latvia some board sellers also offer edge banding, cutting to size and all hole cnc cutting (also hinges). Just send drawings. Blum cabinet configurator (online) makes drawings automaticaly if you use them hardware. So its custom cabinet but you just pick it up from board seller and assemble it like ikea cabinet without much work. And blum box system is easier drawer to build. No calculation and only cut 3 parts and screw to box system ...

My new kitchen is currently being built. 2m² for 8k€ with no appliances. It's absolutely ridiculous how expensive kitchen furniture, and specially porcelanic countertops are. I am still shocked about how much I paid for it, but there's a good designer behind, so fingers crossed. I prefer not to see how much this island would have cost to order. Great job dude, immaculate finishes.

My brother is a cabinet maker in America. He uses a lot of the same tools and techniques, but slightly different in some cases. He's used oak for years, but these days uses a lot of painted surfaces, often white. But he's also chosen to use a lot of maple. I like the lighter color; it seems a little more modern, and can really change the ambiance of a room. Regarding IKEA... A friend of mine once told me that she stopped buying IKEA "because it was only good for one move." I knew what she meant as once a joint begins to loosen, it only gets worse and worse over time even in normal use. My solution was to buy large bottles of thin viscosity CA glue. When I finished assembling a piece the first time, I would run a bead of CA down the length of intersecting pieces and let it wick into the seam. Once it cured I never had a single problem - sturdy as solid wood.

One benefit to the "American" style drawer runners is that you aren't giving up any of your drawer depth for the glides. You give up width, instead. Personally, in most of my builds, I'd rather give up that width than depth.

The blum drawers are great. expensive, but you can keep them forever. if you ever move out and leave the cabinets behind you can preplan by having enough space left to nail in wood strips to make it the old school drawers that just lay in there while taking the blums with you.

The editing is also great, just explain everything once and then skip to the next part without adding filler video shots of making every single piece. I appreciate how you respect the viewer's time, and are very transparent about the tools and materials you use.

Mdf is heavy as heck, and even though you have a sealed finish, you'll still absorb moisture, causing the structural integrity to diminish and warp. Id use mdf on anything not screwed to the wall in high moisture areas. I'll trust the wood fibers. Plywood all the way, except outside. Then you either should use solid wood or other high strength composite material. Dovetail for extra support. Great video🤙
