What filament type do you recommend for router templates?

I have purchased the V2 system and been using it for at least two years. The ones that are open source per the documentation. I am not going to debate Gridfinity vs this solution. I am commenting on the content itself. There was not any, it was an infomercial. I am disappointed as I did not learn anything or see anything new. I would have liked to have seen more content about the design process itself. The reason I mention it is to provide some viewer feedback.

The one thing I found confusing is the end grid files. For instance a 6 grid + 14mm is 54mm wide while a 6 grid + 15mm is is 15mm wide. That really needs to be explained somewhere.

I saw a few comments about Gridfinity. When feasible I like to support the channel and buy the plans. I have looked into gridfinity in the past. And the thing I like about buying the files from someone who created the file is that it’s item specific and I can always reach out to Alex and ask questions and/or watch the videos that usually answer my questions anyway.

I actually made a video about making an alex into a paint rack storage system, and also used your system for one of the drawers which has been super helpful, but did waste a bit of space in the drawer. IM excited to upgrade this to the new system! Cheers mate! kzbin.info/www/bejne/m4ecpZR6hK-FeLssi=TDADqFTexj107YtD&t=644

Sharing my thoughts after using this in case it helps anyone still on the fence. I purchased this on the shop and I have 4 alex units (2 of the 6-drawer wide units with casters, and 2 of the narrow 5-drawer units). Pros - it's well designed. The components are easy to print, and the filament joints lock the pieces together securely. Everything feels very sturdy when assembled. This works great to solve the problem of making it easy to get to the otherwise inaccessible depths of the drawer Cons -For the price, it feels incomplete. There's cradles available for all the drawer variations, but the design makes it impossible to use most handle designs that slide over the opening with the wider drawer units. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem, but since the provided handles only fit one variation of the opening, if you have the 'other' version, you either have to opt for no handles, secure them slightly misaligned, or not use cradles in the front-most part of the drawer, which eliminates the benefits of this system. If you're on the fence, and you have the wide drawers, at the very least print the free drawer handle available on the site and see if it fits your unit. It's not an issue on the narrow drawers because the front face of the drawer is tall enough that there's clearance between most alternate handle designs and the top of the cradle. In the meantime, I'm opting to go handle-less on my wide Alex drawers but having handles is convenient enough that I'd almost rather waste the space in the back of the drawer

This is fantastically creative and really well designed. My only question is what weight rating specs is it rated for? I’m less concerned about the metal assembly as the 3D printed materials and felt grips. To be blunt, if all you’re putting on the rig are some lightweight mirrorless cameras and basic sound equipment or studio lighting controls, then it’s no problem. But if you’re going to put a $10,000+ camera set up on it, I’d want to be sure that the things holding it in position were anchored with something that has a stronger traction system (and at least one redundancy) than felt pads that were meant to be used horizontally, with the weight of the furniture pushing down on them - not in a vertical position assuming the glue on the pad is strong enough to keep it in place. I’d love to see a version 2 that iterates on this design with some material upgrades, possibly a redundancy system that expands on/improves on the counterweight system and a more stable base that still maintains the mobility of the system (recognizing that it’s still a studio set-up in the end.) Don’t get me wrong, these are more minor quibbles than anything. Keep up the amazing work!

Sigh. These mills are not old. They have about another 300-700 years of life in them. I am not exaggerating. Modern mining companies are using presses that were used to push propellors onto propellor shafts....for Liberty Ships in WWI. These are still in used today. To understand the equipment in your possession you need to remember these didn't come from the world of planned obsolescence. There are no old mills. There are only abused and neglected mills. They can literally operate at precision for 1000 years with occasional replacement of worn parts. If and only if a skilled machinist is operating them and taking care of them.

Rewatching this as I consider a new sorting system for my tools. I built a proprietary system 3 years ago to modularly fill an ikea filing cabinet years ago, but that meant it couldn't be square because of how awkward the size was. The 40x40mm grid is a great idea considering how many factors 40 has (1,2,4,5,8,10,20,40) which I think will be more beneficial than 55 or 50. Hopefully when I get a few more drawers set up I can get printing some boxes!

Just bought your system. Unfortunately, it seems that i have bought the wrong IKEA Alex furniture since the depth of the drawers are only 46 cm (9 drawers) against the 56 cm depth (6 drawers) that you are demonstrating in your video. I hope that you will make an update to your system so that the final 10 cm of the drawer can be utilized. I don't know if you can get this model in the US but in Europe it has model number 904.861.39.
