How to build a kitefoil board | part 1

One of my friends wanted a specific Kitefoil board. It had to be short enough to be very manouvreble and light, and he had to be able to place his hand on the nose off the board to be able to sit down while flying above the water. In this video you will see the first part of me shaping and laminating the board.

good job; on the foil box I honestly prefer to use polyurethane glue, because if you are not super precise you can create dangerous air gaps but more than anything else the tension forces work on the carbon sheet between the box and EPS, instead with PU everything blends together creating a strong single block; why didn't you put pillars connecting to the bridge? you are not afraid that the pressure of the foil on the box could crush it inside

Thanks, and maybe I will use PU glue in the future. This method works on all the foil boards I’ve made so far. But I get what you say. What do you mean with the pilars and the bridge?

@@Dzjiefoils I made a mistake with the translation, so I mean the ribs which are (strong) PVC blocks that are placed between the box and the connection with the deck of the board; practically they serve to ensure that the box, with the pressure of the foil or after jumps, is not compressed into the EPS of the board, and it happens! now I don't do kitefoiling or surfoiling but in the Wing where the pressures are greater because larger fronts are used, when you see those videos of boxes that are soft and wobbly in the boards it's because it's due to this

@@giuvude80 ahh ok now I get it. I think/hope that because the box is pretty big, it distributes the load over the foam. The carbon layer I added in between the pvc box and the PU foam also helps distributing the forces.

@@Dzjiefoils mmmmmm in my experience it's not enough; then it depends on how big the rider goes in the water, a calm rider won't break anything, a rider who goes big breaks everything; the best custom boards for pro riders have up to 5 x 2cm ribs

how much vacuum do you put on in bar 0.2 or how much? build my own board atm and i have an eps core of 15kg per m3 any sugestions? greetings

I’m around minus -0.2 I believe, but as long as your vaccuumbag is tight around your foam is doesn’t really matter. It’s just to hold the carbon against the foam.

You need to let the vacuum pump runs 24h ?

I think you can stop at 10h or something, but epoxy isn’t even fully cured after 24h. So thats why I do it this long.
