This is the 6th video in my series of filming the entire process of framing a house. Today we start by working out the heights of all of our walls so that we can begin to build a level subfloor

Welcome My husband is a skilled carpenter and needs work in Australia. Could you help him? He searched a lot on the Indeed website and did not find anything We have 3 children and he needs work

A digital level would be more accurate

"don't know why tools keep breaking" whilst you turf the laser remote onto the slab. hahahahaha

5cm out over 10m on slabs in Spain is pretty common. Terrible workmanship, they'd consider what you've got there 'good' 😂

Not telling you how to suck eggs but you could’ve flicked that datum line at any nice working height on the walls and zipped around measuring without the ladders, then neither of you needed to be on a ladder. Trick for next time 😘

A pro tip 👍👍👍
@joshualogan14614 ай бұрын
@@junhapark5899 haha definitely not a pro by any means. Different ways of achieving the same though, and sometimes we make a harder job of an easier task. Everything’s easier looking back and it’s not like I’m putting my videos up on KZbin, there’d be way more mistakes and rotten language

go old school and run around with a water tube level, if you wanna be absolutely certain. its how they built the pyramids
@adamguo79103 ай бұрын
lol I know someone will bring this up. Every time, when I get laser level out in front an old carpenter, they will talk about water hose technology

Best practice is to eye and mark middle of line because over a long span the laser thickens but measuring the line and picking the middle if your laser is correct it should never change! Or just use the receiver! If your still not sure if your laser is in level pick a new level or an old one still in plum make a few marks too the length of the level and check the line that way.

a good designer designs house from roof down. a good carpenter builds house from ground up, but sets out from roof down. so that all loads where possible are in detect line. if i set out all beams rafters joists would have stud directly under all way to slab

Sorry Dave I cannot believe you never checked the slab before you started the walls, and you was worried about what point of the laser dot your man was measuring from 😂😂😂

Hey Dave, whenever you suffer bruising use hirudoid cream, it will draw the bruising (blood) out quicker and promote healing faster.

12 mm over 4 meters sounds like standard for Concrete’s

it’ll be easier to set the laser up in a room where it will reach every wall. mark the receiver and chalk the lines then measure from the top plate to the laser lines and you’ll instantly know how much packing is needed to make the joists level. saves running around on a ladder.

Is that poor concreting or is some error to be expected?
@joshualogan14614 ай бұрын
Depends how many beers the concreters had before they poured the slab. Jokes aside, unfortunately comes to be expected in Australia
@jac39754 ай бұрын
One job of a unit complex on was on in the early 2000’s a 6 concreter gang used to go through $4k a week of VB forming and pouring slabs.

Never expect a slab to be mm perfect, it will always be a little bit out in areas. Sometimes more than others.

@@MrBraden17 for sure. 17mm over 4 meters is a bit shit though

@@joshualogan1461 Yeah that's rough, 20mm over 3 metres it the tolerance so there getting close

Check your slab before cutting studs and cut them to suit your slab/datum
@tomhusking30204 ай бұрын
that is definitely not what you do. would take 10x longer to frame the house 😂
@hardrocknutrition4 ай бұрын
@@tomhusking3020 if you ran around and checked the slab with a laser before framing walls you would definitely take +/- 10mm height differences into account, it may take longer but it’s cheaper to fix it before you start then trying to self level the first floor subfloor at lock up stage.
