Not a bad idea! I lose some feed in the bottom of the tire, that might make it even more efficient.

Hello. Thanks for the video. In the video, you mentioned you wet the feed sometimes. how does wet food handle on your tire feeders?
@DanielRizza2 жыл бұрын
I seldom to that anymore. The food gets wet from rain sometimes. It works just fine. I've actually drilled a few holes in the wood to help it drain. The tire came off the wood when I initially did it. I screwed it down again with scrap 2x4 pieces and that has held up for several years now. Way less feed waste now.

May i ask what you feed your pigs as well. Nice video

We feed them soy free grains from a local farm here in MD. Homestead Harvest.

You should see what Living Traditions Homestead built for his pigs. Seems to work well. You'd have to look through his videos, it's back a ways but seems to work well. Why is your feed so fine? Most others I've seen is more pellets? Maybe that's why you have so much waste? Are you going to start feeding the pigs corn now since they only have a month or so left? I've heard others say it makes the meat much better... I'm not a Homesteader so these are just questions because I watch a lot of homesteading channels....

This is definitely revision 1. I went out this morning and they ripped it off the board! Haha. It lasted a week! I have a new plan!

Gives them a new feeder Pig uses it as a scratching post lol Pigs are so weird. My fathers pigs do that rubbing thing against my leg too when I go in to feed them and whatever reason especially when you are petting one and then the other two come up and start pushing on you and rubbing against your leg like your a tree or something lol

If you wet the feed down that will eliminate all the powder being compacted into the soil.

Yeah, I am walking a fine line between time spent on chores and waste. This tire has helped so much!

How did it work out? I like the tire feeders but there is a lot that I don’t like. I’ll be building some soon.
@DanielRizza4 жыл бұрын
What do you not like about them? The pigs ripped this tire off in about a week. I reattached it by screwing small pieces of wood holding the tire to the board on the inside. That worked just fine.
@tillmanfamilyfarm77594 жыл бұрын
I guess that it. Ripping them off, feed getting under the edge of the tire on the inside. Maybe I’m crazy! I’ll find out soon.

So I get alot of food waste from different businesses. I was hoping to find a diy to make a type of food processor instead of just using a knife to slice everything up. This is bulk loads of say cabbage carrots and so on. Thanks

That's cool! When I get food waste from a local grocer, I just dump it in there on the ground. I don't cut anything up for them.

Why did you just screw those feeders to the wood
@DanielRizza2 жыл бұрын
I did at first but they ripped it off in weeks. I solved this problem by using a small block of wood and screwed that down with the tire between that and the bottom piece of wood. Does that make sense?

I didn't want to ruin the feeder, plus the tire has higher walls and was free.

Your piggies are so big compared to the jackolopes I raised. I lost some to the chupacabras last week. Jackolopes are super expensive so don’t look at buying one.
