I like your videos! One thing I would do is put everything you use in the description. Helps out with specifics. Might get less questions on the video :) Also if you put links to where you buy stuff that will add to the video even more! But your video was great! Have a sub!

Also one thing with epoxy that is important and it looks like you did with your video. Make sure the piece is level when you pour it on. The stars do not matter as much for level but the final pour over the whole project should be level :)

That flag turned out really nice. Been looking into doing one like it. You mentioned you would have done a couple things different. I’m curious as to what those would be.
@keystonewoodworx45444 жыл бұрын
White Collar Workshop thanks!! I would have chosen a white epoxy rather than the blue. I would have also done the last epoxy pour in a dust free zone. Lastly I should have wiped off excess epoxy off the bottom edges of the flag after it drips off. None of these are even notice but when I do this again I would change those small things. All in all it turned out great, especially how crisp the stars are. Thanks for asking and definitely show me your end result when you get to it!

One of the better flags out there! Do you make/sell the union piece? That's the only hard part to complete this diy.
@RwitR3 жыл бұрын
I sell wood flags from time to time. I think I will start making some unions on my CNC and start selling them by themselves.

What are the dimensions of this flag
@keystonewoodworx45444 жыл бұрын
Hey Christian, this flag is 19.5”x 36”. Each stripe is about 1 1/2” wide. The union is 10 1/2”x15”. Thanks for asking!

Way Way to labor intensive & time consuming to make a real business out of it . If it’s just your hobby then cool 🇺🇸

Very odd technique's used,, And "Blue stars??? Making the stars with the maple inlays or even stand-ups would have made more sense.. No consideration given to planer snipe?? Using wide pieces of walnut for the union and only sealing one side will end up being problematic especially when no line-up fasteners such as biscuits, dowels, or dominoes were used.. All that money for the hardwood and time spent on labor could go to waste due to skipping a few simple, small but very important steps

I think what our diplomatic friend meant to say is what ever sealer you use on one side it should be the same sealer on the other even if its a skim coat. He also appreciates you stepping out and trying different colors even though it wouldn't be his choice.
@twistedhillbilly61572 жыл бұрын
@@therebellion6911 Perhaps what the Diplomat meant is, By making a flag with wood, certain liberties are taken. On a US Flag, the stars are the same color as 6/13ths of the strips It just seems to make sense to keep that the same so they stand out.. A purest would insist that all surfaces and edges get the exact same amount of the same sealer. The diplomat is not a purest but has made the mistake of joining boards that will move differently, in microscopic amounts over time and had beautiful pieces split wide open because precautions were not considered or taken. Wide pieces ARE going to warp even when properly sealed. Different woods are going to warp and shrink differently. Even if the movement is barely noticeable, joints WILL pop apart. The Diplomat won't go into issues with gluing end-grain.. That is a whole nother subject.. It's a beautiful piece that took a lot of labor,, but it WILL split open and the stars are barely visible.. The Diplomat was interested because he makes his with old reclaimed redwood decking and white fir leaving the natural colors as they are.. Very few people do that....
