A way that I found works well is to cut along that pencil line with a sharp utility knife- then when staining, carefully bring your wet brush up to the cut with each color, and the color will not cross the cut line. You get a very sharp separation line of the two colors.

Thanks John!! I used the 1x in the past and ripped 1 1/2, but I found it was cheaper to rip 2x one inch thick. Also they seem more sturdy to me, but I am known to overbuild. 😂 That’s what my friends say anyway. In the end I found it easier. Take care and build on.

Thank you. I appreciate it!! Yes I rip pine 2x10x12 one inch thick. That gives you 1 1/2 by 37 by 1 inch thick strip. They are more solid to me and its cheaper. Price of lumber is outrageous. Yes I get Justin Turner, Liver King, and Ginger Billy 😂 Take care and build on.

Hey, thanks for this great video. I'm just starting making flags and crosses. I'm using 1 inch PVC, for starters as my son gets some extra pieces from work. I noticed you're using 2x10's, wow that must be a heavy flag. I use a metal template and use a 106 as well but I use the cone shaped piece that can be adjusted. Since we prefer paint instead of stain my only problem is not having crisp edges on the stars We also like the PVC because it's white throughout. Looking forward to graduating to burning in the future. Just FYI, since the PVC can come in large pieces I can make the union in one piece and then add the five stripes. Thanks again, Robert

@matthewdavis6741
@matthewdavis6741 Жыл бұрын
Douglas Fir is a type of softwood, pine is a different kind of softwood. Not sure what's available in abundance in Italy. The flag is 13 pieces at 94 centimeters long for the stripes. The blue square is about 35x25 centimeters. The back supports are 48.25 centimeters in length. Adjust as necessary. Center on back is 47 centimeters, adjust out 1.8 centimeters on either side for center. Then 30.5 centimeters away left and right from center for the other two braces.

Hey Kevin. I have glued in between each board in the past, but I didn’t like it seeping out on the flag side after clamping it. The clean up was painful. I suppose I could do a lighter coat of glue to remedy that problem though. I found putting a heavy coat on the three back supports worked just as good for me. stripes are supposed to be 1 1/2 inches not 1 inch

You rip the boards one inch. When you flip it on its side 1 1/2 wide. So essentially what you got is a 1 1/2 strip 37 inches long by 1 inch wide. I should of clarified that in the video. Thanks for watching. Take care and build on!!

Great video and nice flag! Just FYI--you can still get Scarlet, True Blue, and Marshmallow from Lowes, you just have to tell them how to trick the software at the paint center. I have a video that explains it, if you still want to get any of those colors--I'll leave the link below. Which stain are you using here? It's the new formula, but it looks like you are able to apply it like the old formula. Are you using the solid stain rather than the transparent? I've been using the transparent, but it's a bit of a pain to apply compared to the original formula. If you're using the solid stain here, I'll give that a try, because it looks plenty transparent to me. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nmfRiHatgZWcg6c

Thank you. Appreciate the feedback and the info. Yep I switched to the solid after they changed up. Really liked the old formula though. I will definitely check your video out. Take care.

@SmithJoy Design And I'm definitely going to get some solid stain. Might have to make an update to that video. I've worked out a way to use that new transparent, but if the solid goes on like the old formula and you can still see through it, I'll definitely be switching to that. One of my viewers said you can also thin the transparent with water and get similar results, so I'll try that too.

Man I'm really wanting to get into wood working but never knew anyone that did anything like this my father was never into any of this stuff so it wasnt something I was gonna pick up from him sadly lol. The county we live in just had it's substation attacked a few months ago (*Moore County NC)* shit was brutal for a few days. I'm disabled and really trying to find a way to start making some income again. It's been rough. Also in the process of building my own little coal forge and shit to get into smithing some for a hobby to start, if it goes well may try to sell something eventually. But being disabled and not having a table saw, router etc. already from family makes getting into this stuff hard see'ing how I don't have an income atm already. REally sucks but thats my issue. Thanks for the guide I may still try to do what I can. My end goal is to build a guitar, electric of course but really I want to get to the point I could make an acoustic guitar. I've been playing for over 20 years and it's something I've always dreamed of learning. Idk I'm a36 year old disabled weirdo rambeling on your TY comments. Sorry bud. lol
