Carrie Rose is the 29 year old co-founder and CEO of leading search-first creative agency Rise at Seven. Rise at Seven was founded in 2019 and in its first year brought in $1.8 million in revenue from working with some of the biggest names in the business, including ASOS and PlayStation. Fast forward to year 3 and this became $9 million and she’s also expanding her to the US as well. Carrie is an absolute powerhouse in the PR industry and in the episode she offers so much valuable business advice from how to pitch, to getting investments and also shares what she’s learned about marketing and advertising while growing her business. We also talk about teenage Carrie, and the challenges she faced in her early life, growing up in a disadvantaged area as well as dealing with grief from a young age and how that played a role in her journey to become the CEO she is today. I think the influence Carrie's dad had on her mindset is a key factor. Having that seep into your subconscious at a young age can have a profound effect. It's hard to change (if it's a negative mindset that seeps in at a young age) it really takes a hold of you good or bad. Her dad sounds like he was amazing and would be beaming with pride

Growing up dirt poor, I can totally relate to Carrie. There's a certain street smart technique books can't teach. Couple that with an amazing education, the will to win and a good heart, you get a story like Carrie's that can inspire lives across the world. I learned a long time ago that when life tells you no, you have to push through with your "just watch me" attitude and kick it in the butt. Never let your beginning determine your ending. I really took my time to listen to this podcast... I'm just speechless... I really admire her relentless effort and I did learn alot from this podcast. Thanks Ali & Carrie. But I need advise on how to go with my business. I am a professional graphic and web designer, I also have knowledge on video editing and tech in general. I am new with this agency kind of thing but I decided to start an agency, I built my own website and it's live now but I have been unable to get client, although during my learning stage I was able to design from scratch a real estate website for a friend, I guess that's one of my achievements. I think the problem I have currently is capital because the real estate company I am working for as a graphic designer pays me $150 monthly ($1800 per year) and it's a 9 to 5 job, it's not really profitable for me and I can't quit because I won't be able to pay rent and feed. Nobody is willing to sponsor and I really don't know how to start... Even creating content for my social media page is hard because my company wants a 100% percent from me 😭

Writing as a man who served his country as a military officer for a lot of years and has been volunteering since he was a child... and never neither negotiated a salary nor asked for a pay raise. Please, stop with those "gender pay gap" fantasies: in Europe, the most advanced countries (e.g.: Germany) have the biggest "gender pay gap" and in Scandinavia there's the "Nordic paradox" where women are "more free" compared to other "more traditional" places, yet there are less women joining STEM fields, it means that there's much more. I'm a data scientist interested also about psychology and all those hypothesis about "women earn less than men" are full of biases. Finally, the logic: if women really are worth the same, are equally reliable and cost less, only an idiot CEO/HR would choose to hire many more men, if women would do the same in exchange for less money.

Don’t go into e-commerce it is not profit making it is highly competitive and loss making. I have started my digital marketing role on Seo and then worked in agency and worked on e-commerce Brand’s and I set up e-commerce brand in the Covid pandemic but burned out due to extreme level of stress and people management in e-commerce.
