This looks great and its an amazing concept, but I think the water turbulence is too much for the ricefish, who come from still water in rice paddies, and the lily. Simply lowering the bottle closer to the surface and lowering the flow on the pump with a valve would help a lot.
@elementkx3 жыл бұрын
This is really cool, but the huge waterfall makes it impossible to see the ricefish. MAybe lower the bottle or less waterflow?
@RegisAquatics3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I agree the flow is a little much. I will probably swap out the pump for something smaller moving forward

Nice setup! I made one of these a couple of months ago :) I skipped the step of adding a pond liner though. The guy I bought the barrel from recommended not to line the barrel because the planks of wood will shrink over time. It will slowly leak for several days without a liner, but eventually the wood will swell up and hold water just fine.
@RegisAquatics3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I initially tried with no liner but the water started smelling really bad after a few hours. I didn't want to risk affecting the fish.
@superjaz18103 жыл бұрын
@@RegisAquatics You just need to sand the charred wood off of the inside of the barrel and do a few water changes over a couple of weeks. Mine smelt like whiskey for a while but the smell has gone now :)

How about FlexSeal? The. Let it cure and do a few water changes. If that would off gas too many chemicals you could do Krylon Fusion spray paint, once it’s dry it’s as inert as PVC.

Bottom layer should be 1. Substrate 2. Gravel 3. Sand - that would help filtering and sustaining aquatic life and decreasing maintenance…as gravel alone doesn’t do anything except make it harder to clean and ensuring dead leaves/crap get stuck there and decay

Heavy water flow is the issue for this kind of tiny fish pond, you may add a faucet nozzle for controlling flow. It could be better as my opinion. Although nice work. 👍

A dry barrel collapses fairly quickly as the staves shrink as they dry. This would need regular rain at least notwithstanding the pressure from inside.

The bottle looks incredibly tacky, the water stream is way too strong and too forceful in a linear fashion that is aimed at just ONE point, and subsequently, is probably very, very loud (which is why we never got to hear the real stream). Not too mention the black liner is very visible upon completion, and there is no visibility of the actual fishes themselves since they are being bombarded by that water stream. A highly disappointing build. It is just strange since Regis Aquatics has done much better work in the past.
