My mother doesn't want me to buy her anything for her birthday this year... so I'm going to make her a loom! She does a whole bunch of stuff (rug-hooking, punch needle, etc) and we've been talking about weaving lately. I'm going to follow this video and mail her a homemade loom! Thanks!

Thank you for your videos on pin looms. Lol just want I need another fiber art! But, I think this will be a good thing for my youngest daughter. Lol she's 25. But she wants me to teach her a craft. I think this may be a good idea for her. I do have a question. Does the spacing of the nails remain the same if you plan on using smaller/thinner yarn/thread, such as the size of crochet thread? All I have seen used is the 1 cm spacing. But it seems like that might be too much for crochet thread or fingering weight yarn.
@DIYOnTheHouse
@DIYOnTheHouse 3 жыл бұрын
I haven't tried one with closer nails - and I have only doubled thin thread, I haven't done thin thread by itself. I am guessing if you did 7 or 8 mm that it would make a tighter weave, but it if you did only one strand of thread, it would be pretty flimsy. HMMM? You have me wondering. I really love weaving on this loom - fast fun projects!

I followed your instructions and bought a frame (with someone's horrible paint be number artwork) at our local thrift store. Only catch I had was that it kept breaking my drill bit. I ended up tapping a hole with my awl, then adding the nail. It is taking a long time.

Glad you like the videos!! Truly appreciate your feedback! Pin looms are for string and yarn. I am working on editing a video on how to use the pin loom (hopefully will get it up this weekend). I have made a blanket out of the squares and working on a purse. Actually really fun - so start keeping your eye out for yarns and thread at the thrift store!

Were you wanting to make it out of fabric or yarn? If you are doing fabric, small 1/4" strips would be good. If you are doing yarn, the thicker Sugars and Cream type yarn would look nice. That help?

What's the difference between a potholder loom vs pin loom?
@DIYOnTheHouse

The pin loom has nails all of the way around - and is for finer thread. The Potholder has nails on one side and is for thicker fiber.

@DIYOnTheHouse right lol. I want to be able to make huge afghans/blankets. BUT I ended up grabbing a few (3) flexee Loom sets/boxes... they're adjustable, so I'm able to make a queen/king blanket OR I can make a baby blanket, hats, towels, and other things of all different sizes. BUT I am looking to build a gigantic square/rectangle frame to be able to make blankets like the pom-pom blankets from TikTok

@DIYOnTheHouse
@DIYOnTheHouse 3 жыл бұрын
You can do a rectangle as well. But on a square one, there is a way you weave that goes on the diagonal, and I am pretty sure it would be a little tough if your nails weren't even numbered on each side.

It would be a lot cheaper and easier to just use the stretcher bars WITHOUT buying a stretched canvas!!! You can get these the same length (say 12x12" or 10x10") or in two different lengths for a rectangle. You can glue them together once joining the bars at the corners or use a wiggle staple ("www") at the corners, out of the way of your corner nails. You can get these whatever size you want at dick blick -- be sure to get four bars the same size for the square.
@Linda-gj7vb

P.S. These bars are soft pine ... no broken bits to drills.

@@DIYOnTheHouse A pet hate of mine is when crafters cutting out of paper or whatever and they do it right in the middle!! We were taught to do it close to edges to keep waste to a minimum and to get as much as we could out of whatever we were doing - and I still stick by this today!!
