We have a 100x50 foot pole barn on our 14 acress property.. But it was once actually a forestry service building in the 40s.. the owner of this land bought it in the 60s took it apart and moved it to this land and rebuilt it himself.. Interestingly enough. the 8x8 posts are not in the ground. They sit on top of 2x10s on top of concrete blocks in the ground. Not even anchored mind you which is ODD.. but its held through how many hurricanes and wind for 60+ years. The beams in the barn are all 4x6 or 6x6 for the roof.. yes 4x6 and 6x6 for the roof beams lol.. Its interesting how it was built. the 50 foot span uses a 4x6 50 foot beam.. with 2x10s bolted to the center of the beam and then a giant metal bar bolted through that going to the roof beams.. So in essence the roof supports its own weight.. Its interesting seeing how cheaply new barns are made these days "no offense lol" using all pine soft wood.. and small boards, versus the gigantic solid oak beams mine has. Even my 2x4s for the roof are oak. I guess today that would be too expensive to build like this The prior owner who rebuilt this in the 60s did an amazing job, he built 6 horse stalls, with a slab on 1/4 of the barn, the middle 1/2 is three double doors, for storage for cars or farm equipment. Dirt floor though, and the last 1/4 section is a single double door, with a 4 inch slab 10 120v outlets, and a 50A and 25A 240v outlets. Also is insulated "as best as youd do for 1960 with foam and tar mats behind the dry wall. It also has water in the stalls and the workshop coming directly from the house itself 300 feet away..... I also have a drain in the floor on both slabs, and a 15 foot work bench made out of 4x6 oak posts i assume were scrap. I also have a cinterblock lined with tile chimney for a wood stove in the shop. The shop also has 6 huge windows that flip up for ventilation if i want So the building itself is 80 years old, or 60 if you count the rebuild. The tin roof leaks a little in spots, and needs some new sealent put on top. its leaking through the nails in the 2x4s and rotting them slowely. Im very grateful for that man for building such an amazing, still standing, barn, with evgerything one would want... Water, power, slabs with drains, and yea.. most guys with workshops i noticed dont have water, and dont have 240v power either. And lack of windows in many modern shops/barns is depressing. The man is now buried at the cemetary next to this property. We also have a 50x15 foot building, built in the 80s. Once used as dog kennle... water power insulated but it needs work.. I sold the cages and im tearing down those cinterblock walls for the like 15 cages it had going outside.. Not sure yet what ima do with the building, but those 15 cages outside are all on 4 inch concrete slab.. im thinking of building an addition to this building. If i do that itll make the building 50x30 in size

Modern buildings are engineered to wind loads in our region. Just because it's not built the same way doesn't mean it's not as strong or stronger than an older building. Sounds like you have a lot of nice spaces on your property!

It's dry set.....they get it square then the roof holds it square while the concrete sets over time
@passion830217
@passion830217 2 жыл бұрын
Are those concrete fast curing concrete? They look like regular concrete since they are in yellow bags instead of red, which are fast curing concrete that we put then dry in and water later. Some people say that the posts may move when we put dry in and water later since the concrete does not get evenly wet and they do not cure evenly. Of course, your builder said the other way. Not sure that was only they wanted to get the job done faster.
@PineyGroveHomestead
@PineyGroveHomestead 2 жыл бұрын
They dry set around here. I'd prefer a concrete truck with a wet mix, but nobody is going to build a pole barn that way. It doesn't matter on this build because we ran footers and a slab later in this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aWKbeH-rbJuDoLc

Nice video. I have a question ⁉️ trying to build a RV storage lot similar to this video for about 50 vehicles what size do you recommend for something like that. Also I need about 25 feet in height or is that too much for the bigger RVs? Any information would help thanks 🙏
@PineyGroveHomestead
@PineyGroveHomestead 2 жыл бұрын
I think the safest way to answer that is to go to an RV dealer with a tape measure and find out the height and width of the largest RV they sell. Then get with a reputable pole barn builder and figure out the right size to fit that.

Legal height for commercial vehicles before you need oversize permits is 13’6”. If your planning on overhead doors at each bay you will need to plan for an additional 2’ of headroom on your sidewalls for installation.
