I watched the whole series. I was considering building a table, I currently have a 7ft. ommercial table. After seeing this, I realized I just don't have all of the wood tools I would need. So, I will wait until I do. But, you did a fantastic job especially for having never done it. It came out beautiful. Well done sir!
@jdwilling12 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. Between work, filming, editing, waiting for parts and life events, it took about 3 months. If I could have concentrated solely on this project I could have built it in less than a few weeks. I have about a grand invested in it but I could have cut that almost in half by using different pockets, fabric, balls and cushions.

Awesome job! Dad and I built a pool table way back in the late 70's and I wish we had the resources available then that we have now with the internet. I did inherit the table after Dad passed away recently and I'm looking at restoring it and this video is very helpful, thanks for posting. I plan on posting some videos of my project as well. We used walnut and oak for the table, the walnut was used for any areas visible and the oak was the structure of the table. The subrails were made from poplar with 3/4" walnut with mother of pearl sight inlays on top. The legs were turned from 6" X 6" solid walnut stock, which is nice, but with solids they tend to open up over the years so something else that I'm going to have to deal with once I get into it again. I'm also looking at replacing the structural oak with 2" X 6" hickory beams. I have always liked hickory for it's weight and strength.

Very nice table, great size for a small room. I like the way you incorporated the legs into the design and stability of the table. For the first time installing the felt it looks fantastic. Buying the slate top would be the first thing to get before building the table and being able to buy it for only 150.00 was a steal. Again, great job you should be proud. I couldn't think of anything I would change, it looks that good. Good Luck and have fun, Vinny

So I finally finished your little movie marathon can't believe I watched all 8 episodes you definitely have skills I give you that unfortunately I was watching the videos to try to get an idea of how to build new rails converting drop pocket style to flush pockets but once I started down that road and watching your videos I couldn't stop I definitely don't think I will be attempting making my own rails for a while at least I mean at least you gave all the angles that you used some angles crack me up like 41 and a half degrees super precise but I like you I like doing my own work especially when it comes to saving a few bucks I got a free pool table it's a wood top I know where I can grab a slate table for a hundred and fifty but both are aesthetically pleasing so it was looking to use them to customize my own table down the road what thanks for the vids keep up the good work

Well that was quite the project, you didn’t say how much it ended up costing you though. I’m pretty impressed that you finished without too many things going wrong, it seems like my projects go off the rails a few times before I’m finished. I was wondering if you added any feet under the legs for adjusting level, since floors often aren’t level. Nice job and you should be proud of it.

On that note....any pointers for making legs that "X"? The old style had 4 legs and the legs and outer face were all made out of particle board. Sub-frame is 1-1/2" hardwood. This was great. Wish I had seen it before I had started mine. It looked like your slate was framed with the felt backing already. The slates I bought (used) weren't backed. I tried bonding the 3/4" poplar to the slates using wood glue. The wood wound up tearing away that layer of slate away. Would you be able to make a recommendation of how you would install the backing if you had to?
@jdwilling6 жыл бұрын
My slate was already backed with OSB or particle board. Good question. I don't know what the best method would be to attach the backing. I would think contact cement would be the way to go, but I am not certain.

At the start of the build you said you made the pockets on your other table smaller. Exactly how did you do that and did you do a video for it. The one you built looks beautiful, great job.
@jdwilling9 жыл бұрын
Bradley Thomas I used 1/4" thick pocket facings to accomplish that. Apologies, no video of that. But it is pretty simple to do. Strip off the old fabric and replace the stock pocket facings with thicker ones then trim them to shape.

Thank you. I made the pockets tighter by installing thicker cushion facings. I believe I got the idea from another KZbinr.

What did you mean by the pockets are loose so you have to staple them? What part of the pocket needed to be stapled to the table?
@jdwilling3 жыл бұрын
The pockets attach to the table in three places. Bolted into the rails with the pocket ears in 2 places. The third attachment is the leather basket. This is the part that gets stapled so the side of the table slate backing.
