Walter loooks like I probably did at his age when my dad was mechanicaling, electricaling, and building. How I wish I would have been more interested then as I've had to try and relearn most of it on my own, poorly, over the intervening decades. Them Old Boomer's seemed to be freaking Masters of All Trades. Miss 'em.

I have a lot of good memories and bad memories as a kid. But, some of the best memories were of my dad and I working together on everything. I learn so much from my dad when I was a kid. This is what a real father does ... perpetuates a generation of real men. I commend you, sir!

Oh man!!! With this video, I see an awesome opportunity for a new aspect to the, "Jon Peters - Longview Woodworking" channel. Jon, you are such an educator at heart. Most KZbin woodworkers seem to be more interested in a, "Hey guys, look at this awesome thing I'm making! Please subscribe!" whereas your channel's vibe is 100%, "Hey Guys... Let me show you how this is done step by step, and in great detail, so that you can learn." Having Walter physically there in your shop with you genuinely seemed to unlock a deeper "Teacher" side to you. When you are just talking to the camera or doing a voice over, you are all alone. It must be extremely difficult to constantly keep in mind, when it is just you in the shop, what you need to explain in great detail, and what just comes second nature to you after decades of woodworking. But with Walter there, I saw you explain to him how you square up the edge and hang that edge off the side of the other table, and how you have to remember which side of the shelves are "up"... and about 10 other tiny details about your workflow that I've never seen you mention before. And I think you mentioned those things because Walter was there and you were talking to him and not just a camera that gives you zero feedback or body language. I also remember in your sofa table episode, when one of your sons (Walter, or Michael) was helping you lug that heavy thing into that house... you were talking to him about where he needed to put his hand so that you could lay this side down first, etc etc... again, since you had a human being to talk to, we... the silent observers... could watch you give a human being advice or tips in real time that would help anyone who is, in that case, carrying a heavy table. I don't necessarily think that you have to have Walter, specifically, in each of your videos. But... if you have friends, neighbors, that guy that is your business partner that cooks, your wife, friends of your sons, hell... place an ad for anybody local to Red Bank that might want to learn woodworking... if you started including an element of... "Jon Peters teaches [insert person's name] how to build a [project title]." I think that it could be absolutely incredible, and possibly very entertaining. You could even do an Instagram competition where you start a, "Win an opportunity to come to Red Bank to have JP teach you [this or that] in a real episode." You could even work out a deal with a local hotel or B&B so they would give a discount to the winners each... week/month/quarter. That hotel might even become a sponsor. (???) I sure as hell know I'd sign up for an opportunity like that. It would also give you some real-world teaching experience for when you do finally have the chance to do the Vermont woodworking school idea. Anyway... just my .000002 cents. This was a great video! Learned a lot!
@JonPetersArtHome4 жыл бұрын
Thank you Michael... I really appreciate it and that’s Exactly what I hope to be able to do one day. I’m still keeping that Vermont Wood Working stay and play vacation idea alive. I know it will happen just not as soon as I would like it to. Thanks again and be good, Jon

Nice to work with your son. My son worked with me on a few cabinet jobs but wasn't interested in the craft. He now has his own house and I have my old table saw in his barn to use when working on his place. I have to say he is the best table saw helper I ever had. BTW nice shop.

Hi Jon I don’t know how old that father and son video is but very nice seeing Walter out there with you. My youngest son has built a lot of things with me over the years and now has a fully stocked wood shop almost as nice as mine.👌He just finished a 13’ built in and wanted no help. Doors drawers lighting the whole nine yards.I was a bit thrown back. Said dad I learned so much from you I want to try this on my own. I did get a lot of phone calls though.So proud . Nice video Jon. I especially liked when you stepped out and told him to be careful.ROCK ON😊
