Really enjoyed your work with the adz. Ignore the people complaining about how long the project is taking. It will take as long as it takes-your other responsibilities are more important. Your concern for your neighbor is a reflection of your character and compassion that I respect and admire.

I really enjoy seeing your tools for the forest. That saw is just gorgeous. Being a Fire medic for many years, you see so many needs. God commands that we love him with all we have, also to love our neighbor. If we would all do the little things, how much greater would the world be. I seek to enter heaven hearing well done my good and faithful servant. I know you will hear that as well Cody. I enjoy watching, but I must tell you, I consider you to be like another Pastor for me. Many times I feel as if we are having church watching your videos. I hope you continue to see your ministry. God bless my brother in Christ.

Recently ran a med call with an older guy. Have built a friendship after the call. Lots can be gleened from new friends. Your simple stop ins could be just the thing this former leo needs! And your knowledge of him could provide better service in the future if he becomes a frequented address. People have forgotten how to visit with neighbors. Or meet new ones. Good reminder.

It never ceases to amaze me how people can get impatient...even indignant...when you don't 'dance, monkey, dance,' and give them their daily dose of FREE 'entertainment!!' How you sometimes manage to keep your patience is a testament to your faith, and what/how you've been taught. Meanwhile, you're off helping a neighbor, and concerned about their long-term welfare. I'm getting older, myself, and would welcome the blessing of a neighbor like you. I'm not alone. I have my wife, and two wonderful sons (who, thank God, in their thirties have their priorities straight!), but it could easily be otherwise, but for the grace of God. Bless you, Cody, and your family.

Cody - the beauty of these narration-less video series you do from time to time is that they give a sense of taking the time to enjoy the project in all its aspects: being outdoors, working with hand tools (the Yanmar notwithstanding!), the smell of the wood as you cut into it, the constant visualization of the result you are looking for and how what you have done fits into it, and on and on. There is something restful and peaceful about using the hand tools that you don't get with chain saws and cordless drills and power tools. This project isn't about rushing to get done, it's about enjoying the process of getting it done. I remember when you did the first "Back to Basics", and I was mesmerized by the work you did and how you did it.

I thank you from the bottom of my heart to you and yours for everything you do. And to heck with the people who want it NOW, This bridge will last till long after we are gone, do they not understand this ??? You put WAY more time and effort into your videos than people understand. The people who are impatient have probably never produced a well shot video like this. Seriously, picking up the camera, recomposing, checking focus, adjusting settings, picking up and dropping the tools, repeat, repeat. 3 angles of one motion-nobody realizes what that requires. Builds take 10x longer. That first 2 minutes of the video felt like 2 minutes of labor, but I know it took at least 2 hours of detailed effort.

There are still good folks in this country and proud to be in the middle of them.

People forget that, once upon a time, people created communities for exactly this reason. In many places, only county level services are helping people (like Cody and his fellow volunteers) and then even barely. As the population gets older, who will do this work? Volunteering is great and noble, but when you have millions of people in the same situation, it becomes difficult to scale.
@shovelyjoe10596 жыл бұрын
ck m Volunteering is great and noble. And while Cody as a volunteer, helped the man, I don’t think that’s what Cody’s message was about. We can help, sometimes even more, by just being a good neighbor. And that does scale.

Very well said at the end of this video, I've worked with a non profit for seniors that also deals with meals on wheels for over 13 years, and some of the elder people I've come across in my own small town I've lived in most of my life I did not even really know needed help. So if you have the means do look around your community, and find others who might need your help, because helping even just one person can not only affect their lives, but the lives of their family, and friends for the better.

That story about the man you helped out really resonated with me as my father is disabled and extremely sick. He used to work for the Department of Defense and most people think hes just old and not important really. He served in the Navy and went on to start and own a business with my mother. Two of the most hard working people I know in my life are both stuck to wheelchairs and unable to adequately provide for my younger brothers. I can tell you that it has been quite rough the past decade or so but I always live by that Golden Rule, because I know what its like to have a tough time. Its simply amazing what helping someone out or lending a hand or just being there for emotional support can do to that person and his or her family. Keep on making great videos. You along with a few other people give me the incentive to work harder. So i want to thank you for that. God bless you and your family.

Do the projects at your speed, so its done right. These things are not simple video filler, they are part of your homestead and your life, and you bring us along so we can see the step by step, and see both what our forefather did in their day, and what is possible today. I prefer seeing the slower video as questions can arise and we can seek answers along the way. Hey, people frustrated with "slow" progress on this project; GO BUILD YOUR OWN BRIDGE from scratch from a tree you cut down and hauled with your very own tractor. Oh and film it at a professional level using expensive equipment and techniques which greatly slow your work progress. Then offer it to everyone as free viewing content. Then be sure to respond to entitled whiners like yourself with the same grace and class that Cody did when they start criticizing you. Good grief, the entitlement of some people.

I know I put my vote in for the narrated type of video but I forgot how enjoyable it is to just sit back and watch you work. Very nicely done. It was a beautiful blend of old fashioned hand tools and some modern horsepower. 🙂 In my opinion, the golden rule is the only way to fly. But even with that said I can still see some room for improvement in putting myself in someone else's shoes and what they might like or appreciate. Thanks for the little nudge. I can already think of someone at church who's shut in right now... It was nice to know that you consider other people's feeling's even when they might be critical of you. I'm thinking of the people that didn't think you were doing the video series fast enough. You're so calm when you talk about it. What a wonderful example you're setting. That being said, I think you should do what you need to do. How many of us out here actually know (or should know) what goes on in between videos? The rest of your life I would imagine. I think it's amazing that you find time for your family, your other work, AND putting out these amazing videos. Quality is worth the wait. 😉

There, but for the grace of God, go many of us, Cody. I have always been very active and made every effort to use the outdoors as a place of special meaning for me. Now that I have passed into my 76th year, I am becoming much more mindful of those around me who have not been so lucky as I and still want to see things that I often take for granted. My one concern is that, should anything terrible ever happen to me, I will not be able to find help. My generation and those behind me who made up my family are all gone now, I have 2 sons who have their own lives to look after and I don't hear from either of them any more. That's OK, they are grown and able to make their own judgement calls. But I would like to say one day to someone, who I feel has given me an opportunity to enjoy another day, "Thanks for being there for me." Don't you think this gentleman may be thinking that same thing about those of you who were there to give him a hand? At the end of the day, we all have to answer for our mistakes and also for our good deeds, let the good deeds outweigh the mistakes we make and at least we will be able to say we tried to do our best. ..... There, but for the grace of God, .....

This is exactly why I subscribe right here in a nutshell... I'm not all that "religious," spirituality is an entirely different thing. Loving your fellow man, doing as you would like done to you, etc, etc... Keep it up Cody! Yes I'm disappointed when there isn't a new video sometimes, yes I'm eagerly waiting to see what is next, yes part of me would like to see some things finished in one day. Ultimately I think I'm more happy that I get to watch the progress period. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos. and thank you for taking consideration of that man you mentioned here. Now for the question...When is your gathering going to be this year? I heard mention of it, I've convinced my wife to come. Now all we need to do is pack the tent and find some childcare. I'll come help you for a weekend in exchange for meeting your family and some like-minded people.

A good video, Cody. I assume most of the comments wanted no dialog, I for one, like the dialog. It makes me feel like I am visiting you. Even if it is one sided. I get to make comments in the remarks. I am an "old" traditional woodworker. I have been one for about 60 years. I actually started woodworking when I was 2 years old. My Grandpa gave me a tool kit. It had a real saw in it int them days. Mom said that I would saw on the table legs just to make sawdust so I could play with it. I am in my 70's now and I will admit that the older I get, the more power I use! Good idea with the "shutins" too. Keep the videos coming.

I'm sure he feels that he's not wanted or needed but through this act of kindness you have shown him that he is !!! GOOD JOB ,LOOK FORWARD TO THE BRIDGE , TAKE YOUR TIME 😉

Great video to watch as I'm drinking my morning coffee. Watching a project being done well and a good life lesson about being neighborly.

A great deal more information is transmitted by watching a man work, than is normally appreciated. It is the natural way of learning that the old way of apprenticeship used to such great advantage. Neuroscientists tell us that the white matter in the brain is the great mechanism of mimicry, that enables us to "get inside" another person's head, to sense, and even to anticipate, the other's thoughts and actions. It is how we learned, going back to when one of our ancestors watched another flake obsidian and fashion a razor sharp edge. You give us all a great gift of knowledge, when you let us watch you work.

You know every once in a while its great to have the videos with little to no explanation during the job. I love them but you have such a way with teaching and giving people information that its a shame not to narrate as you go as well. Either way I love being part of the Wranglerstar youtube family. Have a great day Cody and send my best to Mrs. W and Jack. "Great thoughts speak only to the thoughtful mind, but great actions speak to all mankind" ~Theodore Roosevelt~

Gotta love the dichotomy of using a technological hydraulic beast to hold a log so you can use 500 year old tech to cut it ;) Love your vids!

Patience is a virtue and I for one appreciate learning that, by watching this project develop. Thank you for putting out this video.
