I have been framing since 1976. Watching you makes my hands sweat. I have been as careful as can be, and still have had some close calls and one accident that almost took my leg. Not to mention a couple others that almost took my life, because I was tired. That's when it happens. I see that you are very confident. Don't trust your life to wood. I have had 2x6 DF snap in two under my feet. I have been trimming 2x6 tails and had one snap off at the plate line. Walking a cat walk without a stud under mid span is not wise. Don't be a hero. You should be teaching safety. You have young guys watching you. Hey, your great on your feet, better than I ever was. But your gonna die , or worse. Slow down and live. All The Best, Much Respect, an old Framer.

Unf'nbelievable, I am honestly in awe of folks that have this ability to overcome the gravitational pull of my head plowing into the earth. I was starting to feel physically sick watching this. It was like watching a movie of impending disaster, waiting for the critical moment. I would have some type of safety harness. I feel sick even using a scissor lift, so definitely not for me. The standing on the board at that pitch just too much for me. However, I have great respect for anybody that can do what is being done here. Great post, I just need to relax and get this out of my mind. Cheers folks.

Seriously though brother. I never miss stepped once doing carpentry for 8 years until I did and it was the worse single moment of my life. Takes a minute to tie off, but falling can take a lifetime away.
@0hypnotoad05 жыл бұрын
Truth. I never understand the "I've never had an accident" rationale. The thing about mistakes is that you never, ever think that you're going to make a mistake, until you do. It's always a little unpredictable thing that gets you. Think about every bail, every time you've tripped in your life, did you expect any of those to happen? You can have 5 million perfect steps up until your accident, but it only takes one false step to maim or kill you.

Looks like a 6 inch wall. Fairly easy to stay balanced. When i started, my journeyman made me walk the length of a 6x2 flat on the ground. i said "Easy" and walked it no problem. So he takes me up top and said "just imagine that ones flat on the ground". Takes a few months to build the confidence but when you're doing it every day you pick it up quick and realise that yeah, its just the same as one flat on the ground.

I don't run with a new construction crew but our lead carpenter came from one. We focus on home repairs, improvements and additions. We recently built a new garage and being that I'm the youngest next to the lead, we were sent up to do the roof to get things prepped for a tin roof. He was running around on the lathes and I was monkeying around the place. I tried a few times to walk it like him, but it did make my rearend tighten up. Hope I can build up that confidence one day.

I have a question about using nails for joints , don't you need brackets , can you build everything just with nails?
@TheTipupking6 жыл бұрын
Technically not. I get trusses every once and a while with out them. I usually cut some plywood about the size of a bracket, and staple the piss out of it. Never had an issue with it. He only built it that way because he didnt have the wall up. Otherwise he would have put a nailer on the wall at the roof plane. I usually pole barn the nailer into the studs. Its not a ton of weight on that little nailer, so its not that big of a deal.
@floydfan59936 жыл бұрын
that last truss will be nailed to the wall that he hasn't built yet.
@TheTipupking6 жыл бұрын
moose knuckle You're probably right. I was saying he built the truss completely because there was no wall. When I have a wall up, and in that situation I nail a 2x4 right to the wall. More or less simulating the top chord of the truss. No inner cords,no bottom chord. Just somewhere to land my sheet.
@floydfan59936 жыл бұрын
he probably did it this way so he could have access to that whole roof from the second floor and do all his material cutting right there , otherwise if he would have built that wall first he would have to probably have to do everything from below. but like you said basically somewhere for the to sit the plywood on, maybe got a little fancy , you have to understand that he's working by himself so other consideration come in to play. lol .tc

Dont deck a roof like him. Cutting plywood while in the roof is bad news especially a 8/12 which is almost 40% slope. He is experienced framer and can handle it but too many novices watching this will get a hair and fall of their roof. Also if you drop back 1" on your layout from the gable end it allows your first piece to be an even 7' and still break on center of the truss.....more efficient use of plywood (OSB)

Pretty much, but not all of them are built the same way. This guy mostly builds with I-beams and particle boards, those are the cheapest options builders can use. Also, I don't know if the guy goes and installs the hurricane plates way later, but there are normally big straps to tie in framing and also bolts to anchor the walls to the foundation.

Bogdan Aktamakov not really up to him what materials he uses you can see the other homes are built with the same material local code probably wouldn't even let him but I agree these houses are a joke but somehow they are able to last 80-100 years well the old ones did idk about these new osb and home depot 2x4 homes probably wont even last 20 years

I totally admire your skill, but I agree with all the other comments. Wear a safety line all those who love you will be soooooo much happier.

The bottom of your framing gun has a flat surface for planing out fascia. No need to drop one tool to grab another if the first tool can serve the purpose

Good video. I just want to point out to people watching, not all roofs are built the same. And everyone complaining about him not tying off. When you’re a professional roofer the rule is, know your limits.
