That thing is so solidly put together, there will be an archaeologist 2000 years from now who'll will find it and marvel. When he figures out what it's used for, he'll be as envious of its owner as I am today.

Love the look and the idea. I am trying to build a smoker that can be used as both a hot smoker and cold smoker. From some of the other plans I have seen this could fill the fill for both. may need a longer pipe to get the cold smoking. Might put in 2 sets of pipes with cut offs. one short like yours and then one which wraps around and enters through the back. thanks for the idea.

Looks awesome and exactly what I want to build in my backyard soon. Do you have any advice if I don't want to have to add a burner? I was thinking maybe bigger firebox and shorter distance to the smokehouse? I also have a ton of bricks left over from building my house so I was going to build as much as I can from brick which should hold heat better. Any advice would be much appreciated!
@ghinni118 жыл бұрын
Starting working on the concrete block work today. What type of wood do you use for the smoker?
@landonporter778 жыл бұрын
Great job man. I think it came out great, if you haven't yet, cut a good sized mouth on the pig, with a handle and a flat piece inside to act as a damper... Paint it to look like teeth. Get you more air, in line with the fire and the pipe into the smoker, should pull more air. Again, great job
@wumpasscat7 жыл бұрын
Wow at the views, thanks guys. As of now she has become yard art basically, I used the house a few times this year but now I have a big, metal tow behind smoker. She's not near as pretty any more tho! A lot of meat was cooked in here, several hundred butts, ribs, turkeys. Thanks for all the views and comments.

i recently built one similar,not as nice but good enough. my question is are you having a problem burnig to much wood?? I mean its burning it fast, would you know how to combat this??
@wumpasscat8 жыл бұрын
Yea, my fire pit is not big enough and sounds like yours might be too... It needs to be no less than a 1/3 of the volume of your cooking area... If it isn't, you use a significantly more amount of wood.

nice job. I built one but I used a car themostat whitch I can control temp at all times it goes from 125 to 300 and I put a car fan to control temp it works great and can sleep at night knowing its safe also we ran a digital thermostat that you can use for grilling so you know the temp at all times because you can carry it with you. Thanks, and good smoking

Nice build bro. I’m about to build one but I’m gonna have a slightly taller one and the smoke inlets will be further away using blocks and a fire pit at the other end probably 15’ away or more
@ChileExpatFamily9 жыл бұрын
Very nice. It is a little small for my needs but I am still going to steel some of your ideas if that is ok? I know you are using the propane but I just can not chance the taste issue. Also here in Chile firewood is cheap and propane is expensive. Thanks for the vid
@wumpasscat9 жыл бұрын
Steal ideas! I know I did. I run propane only when it's really cold outside. But as for size this is all I need. It can hold 20-25 butts easy
@ChileExpatFamily9 жыл бұрын
+Trevor Motes Here in Chile after I moved I could not find REAL bacon. I mean something other than salty fat that was really expensive. So I plan on selling bacon here. Chileanos love bacon like you find in the former USA. They do not know doodles about making bacon which is actually quite surprising since there are soooooo many Germans here. Germans settled the area of Chile where I live in the 1830s so there are red haired white skinned Spanish speaking people all over the place, but I guess they have lost the skill. My Chilean friends just love my bacon and want me to sell it so I need more area to smoke and also I want a slat shelf. Jim

Where are you located? Love your smoker & video! I just smoked my first brisket from beginning to end! I love it! I have a CharGriller with the little side smoker.

Wow, I'm glad to hear your able to hot smoke in it as well. I got my blocks all set in, now cementing in my anchor bolts today! What are the dimensions on wood house? I have no welding skills, so I'm gonna go the fire brick and brick fire chamber route. Might have to into the propane option as well. For the tin roofing , do you have a wood roofing and then put the tin on top??
@wumpasscat9 жыл бұрын
I wanted to brick and mortar a fire pit but got my hand on this old tank I had laying around. As far as the roof, I just screwed it into the 2x4 runners, I didn't deck the roof

@joecaley9 жыл бұрын
I like it, do you just let the smoke vent out at the roof? Didn't know if this is better than a chimney?? I'm building one now as well, thanks for the slide show. What temps can you get your house up to? Just wondering if you could hot smoke in it as well, like thanksgiving turkey???
@wumpasscat9 жыл бұрын
Glad you like it! For ventilation I used cheap 4"x16" ridge vents and a bigger 8"x16" vent on the back right at the top of the gable. As far as temperature goes, I have done two 9-10 hour smoke sessions with some Boston butts with my temp ranging from 225-250. With wood burning alone I can hold a temperature around 225 just fine once the fire really gets going. With the propane burner I added, I was able to easily hold 275 for smoking whole chickens and used a SIGNIFICANT lot less wood. thanks for watching!
@wumpasscat9 жыл бұрын
Oh and as far as a turkey, I'm making a test run with one soon just to make sure everything is a go for Thanksgiving. I'll make short video of the turnout if I remember to...?

@nathanrichards80578 жыл бұрын
So what exactly stops this from catching on fire?
@wumpasscat8 жыл бұрын
it's a cold smoker, all the flames stay smothered in the fire pit. the stove into the house is surrounded by block...
@landonporter778 жыл бұрын
None of the wood is touched by flames, have to have a roaring fire in the pit to affect the wood in the smoking chamber. As long as he keeps the grease cleaned out there's really no way it can catch
@nathanrichards80578 жыл бұрын
Landon Porter So even though he is smoking at 250 degrees, the wood is not at risk of catching on fire or charring?
@landonporter778 жыл бұрын
Not with the fire in a separate chamber. What's the burning point of wood? Even soft wood?
@Imightberiding8 жыл бұрын
Well, paper burns at 451 degrees F. Hence the title of the novel, Fahrenheit 451. So, me thinks wood most like burns at an even higher temperature.

its not about what i think! It's about what YOU WANT! To me its the rite size! to hang 2 hogs or deer. but i would made it different i would use the fire box to grill with too like a off set Grill or smoke and too can use it for hot water and heat THAT WHAT I WOULD DO sure cut the old electric bill down A LOT and again i would build it next to the well house to keep the well from freezing up with a hot water tank JUST TURN THE VALVE OFF AND ON WHAT YOU WANT IS MORE THAT 1 USE! cause you don't smoke that much
