How to build a stone hide! In this video I will be showing you how I built my own stone reptile hide! Hides like this can cost upwards of $20 for pet stores but mine can be built for under $10! Thanks for watching! Hope you enjoy!

You can also use a dremel detailing tool to sand smooth the inside while still preserving the natural appearance on the outside. This is especially useful for enigma syndrome in leopard geckos and some spider ball pythons are notorious for neurodegenerative diseases, sadly the morph is popular. Alternatively you can buy rocks that are flat and already smooth, an aquarium 100% silicon sealant can also aid in coating surfaces smooth and free of garnering filth as porous rocks tend to cultivate bacteria in captivity. Just be sure to allow the sealant to cure completely before puting it in the terrarium, also be sure you have the correct smoothness and shape before applying the sealant.

This is perfect, thank you so much. My new ball python George has been stressed with the store-bought hides I have, and I really just wanted to make him feel more at home in his new enclosure :) I'll also be doing something similar for a water bowl!

I've been thinking about creating a ledge for my Leo for a while now but I hate the idea of using foam (as we see so often). This seems like a great idea that is not only easily done but also better simulates a natural leo environment. Will definately try 👍 Thanks.

Really well done, man! Great work! I personally don't like to use hot glu for things like that (because it's going to get loose soon), but at the same time it's nontoxic, so it's kind of good for your geckos. :)

How did you get the glue to adhere to smooth surfaces? I tried to get my smooth stones to stack and the glue wouldn't stick to them???
@MechNinji6 жыл бұрын
hmm, very interesting. Did you push down on the rocks after you glues them to make sure the glue spread? It might also be your rocks or brand of hot glue. My rocks were flat and smooth but not necessarily slick (if that makes sense! haha!). :)

if you're having an issue with the hot glue not working, you could roughly sand the area being glued to make grooves for the glue to grab onto.

@MechNinji5 жыл бұрын
Yes that could work! And actually iv told a few people here in the comments to do that if you're making it for under water use. However if you're making it for dry applications i think the hot glue would work better. :)

Won’t hot glue melt because the heat?
@MechNinji5 жыл бұрын
no it shouldn't. Most hot glues start to melt at around 150-170 degrees F. I Don't think there are any animals that need the tank that hot.
@avishekkumarsingh6 жыл бұрын
is it aquarium safe ??? I want to put it in my Aquarium....
@MechNinji6 жыл бұрын
Depending on the type of hot glue you use it should be fine. However you might have better luck using aquarium safe silicone ( That's actually what its called! haha!) Its safe for fish, water proof and only a few dollars. You'll just have to give it a few days to dry before using it. :)
@brettchristoffel63914 жыл бұрын

it's funny how you say you're a mech engineer and emphasize structural stability, yet use a hot glue gun, which is probably one of the worst adhesives to use for strength. Silicone, gorilla glue, or mortar would've been much better choices.
