Those came out stellar. When I need to craft one, I'll reference this video. The only thing different I would do is add a wood applique to the center of the top, vertical support board. Then stain it to match.
@kleinjahr7 жыл бұрын
Not bad at all. Personally, I would rabbet the stretchers into the stiles/verticals. That way you're not screwing into endgrain, makes a stronger joint. I'd also put a third stretcher in the middle, to prevent racking. Another thing to watch for is vertical grain on the hangers. This is the load bearing part and wood tends to split along the grain. So keep an eye out for any splitting.

Good job...to avoid cracking the wood you can always pre drill befor puting the screws in ;-)
@Matthew_Jensen8 жыл бұрын
I probably shoudl have mentioned that I did that. at least for the screws in the wall and that secured the spacing pieces.

Nice work. I think I might try something similar but run a corner rounding router bit around the outside edges. I think that would add a nice touch. I will probably steal a good portion of your overall process though. I like how you made the template.

Thanks for the kind words. My collection has bloated over the last few years.. Trying to downsize. If it can't fit on the racks I have, I should probably not have it LOL.

you just gave me a great idea for a sword rack, i plan on if i can find someone who can make it to the proper specifications, when i get my boomershine project rolling, to make me a tsunagi or blade blank but have it matched as a 1/1 copy of the live boomershine but have it made out of something cheap and easier to work most likely machined stainless steel or aluminum to act as an iaito blade as well as a tsunagi. the sword rack part of this story is for when its on display, i can do an arm thats got 3 places on it one for the koshirae with the tsunagi iaito blade one for the live blade in shirasaya but with the blade exposed and a 3rd spot for the saya of the shirsaya. anyways id flip the arms so the went top to bottom to put the koshirae at the top spot.

It sounds like a good idea. I thought about going the other direction with the stand or doing something a bit different.. It just seemed less likely to fall out if someone throws a football in the room.. (as a parent I have to think ahead like that LOL)
@bmxriderforlife12348 жыл бұрын
Matthew Jensen yeah i get the less likely too fall part i just plan on building mine like a shelf sort of, ive got a glass lid with some hinges on it im gonna use to prevent anything like that. as for the parent card lol i have 4 nephews who im fairly close to and have babysat alot, and threy can be a little hyper at times so im always trying to thinkl ahead and prevent injuries. im just hoping i can actually find someone able to make me the iaito blade to match the live blade, plus being able to use one sword for display kata and test cutting just seems like a bonus to me and with how well that tsunami ito seems to hold up i wont have to worry about needing a rewrap for awhile.

I don't know if it is impressive but I will take the compliment. It is at least acceptable in appearance and functional for its intended purpose.

Seriously, I bought a two tier table top rack for my sword, its essentially made of cardboard and glue, painted black. I looked at making your own threads on the net but yours is pretty good. That said by the time Ive bought the tools.....lol.
@Matthew_Jensen8 жыл бұрын
Its true.. But I talk about the costs at the end of the video. If I had bought a 1"x6" and had it pre cut at the store, then I would not have needed a table saw or miter-box. I think the only real requirements for tools are a jigsaw and a cordless drill. You could also make it cheaper using 2x4s and just drill out some 1/4" holes at an angle and fill them with wooden dowels. Anyway, I don't think you need to use as many tools as I used.

niiiiiiiiiice:-):-):-):-) can you say me what do you think about the dragonking shi katana???
@Matthew_Jensen8 жыл бұрын
I have never seen a dragonking blade in person. I think that the shi katana is interesting. I like the tsuba and I think the sword is interesting but I don't really have an opinion on it other than it looks cool.
@Thomasari8 жыл бұрын
Matthew Jensen hey thanks for your answer:-):-):-) i love the tsuba, the menukis, the hamon and the kissaki. The t10 blade, i think is the same like the paul chen t10 shinto katana blade.... at the pictures in the internet i cant see the polish.... its a mirror polish?? Here in germany it costs 700 euro its very cheap...........
I don't know the market for stuff in Germany. But it seems very expencive. Still, I don't really know. I have never seen one in person and that can make a big difference. They don't often look exactly like the pictures and they often have a different feeling than you expect from the spec sheet.
