I haven't seen many team building guides, but this is probably the best one I've seen. The one possible improvement I can think of is explaining how the way a team plays affects the decision making. For example, you can't really switch in on certain Pokemon, so what options do you give yourself in order to beat teams with those Pokemon? I think Tapu Lele is a good specific example, since it's likely to claim one of your mons almost every time it switches in, which means that you generally either need to prevent it from safely switching in or gain momentum with your free switch, both of which require the proper team options in order to do I know that would be super in-depth though. I can't complain about we got; 2 hours of good info
@LordEmvee2 жыл бұрын
Ayyy I'm happy you enjoyed it, means a lot :) yea i think that whole thing comes down to going through the list of commonly seen Pokemon and making sure you have a way to play around it when it comes time to the actual testing, and then tweaking the team based on what you find troublesome on the ladder. Since a team can't handle every single thing and your goal is to minimize the number of holes your team has, you'd see if there can be a way to pivot around certain threats your team has trouble against so it's not a guaranteed loss, or restructure the team accordingly to cover for it.

QOTD: The grass cat. I hope that it evolves into a fast, physical attacker with a good HA such as Tough Claws. Fuecoco might be cool if it isn't cursed with 20 base speed in its final form. I don't know what to make of the duck beyond it maybe becoming Water/Fighting type. That aside, I appreciate the creation of such an in-depth guide on how you make your teams. I can't believe that 3 years went by so fast and that Gen 9 is coming out already. As I get older, I swear that time just goes by faster and faster. When I talk about Pokemon with younger kids playing it now, it's difficult to explain why the old games were better without sounding like a nostalgic Genwunner, lol.

I'm late, but I have to say something I seriously did. I followed the chinese ev guide for bdsp ou and I ended up with this Kangaskhan set Item: Custap berry (may change it in the future) Ability: Inner Focus Moveset: Work Up/Earthquake/Ice Beam/Fire Blast Ev spread: HP: 72 Atk: 148- Def: 24 SpAtk: 216+ SpDef: 24 Spd: 24 So basically, this set: - Outspeeds most defensive Heatran and ohko's at +1 - Ohko's Magnezone at +1 - Ohko's PhysDef Gliscor at +1 - Ohko's offensive Garchomp at +1 most of the time - 2hko's SpDef Jirachi after Leftovers recovery at +1 - Easily 2hko's PhysDef Tangrowth at +1 - Survives banded Mach Punch from Infernape and ohko's back most of the time at +1 - Survives adamant (non banded) Mach Punch from Breloom and ohko's back (with Fire Blast at +1) And those are just the ones I calculated. I think I'm going crazy lol. I'll definitely build a team around this. Thinking of pairing it with PhysDef Tangrowth to counter things it does not deal with such as Azu or Crawdaunt, and maybe pairing it with Blissey for faster powerful special attackers such as Latios

@@ogmechsftw The surprise factor. People will NOT expect a mixed Kangaskhan set and will switch into what they think is a counter (Gliscor, Tangrowth...) only to get demolished. Then, trying to revenge kill it after discovering it's actually a mixed set can be hard, knowing it has some survivality + the custap berry tech. Nidoking is not as bulky, has no custap and on top of that no one will ever stay in with Gliscor nor Tangrowth. Nidoking may be naturally stronger (and better on certain occasions), but nothing beats winning games with this kind of sets

@LordEmvee2 жыл бұрын
Sure I can include a quick little description of terrain teams which are mainly used in Sword/Shield OU :) Grassy Terrain Teams: Rillaboom + Grassy Seed Unburden Hawlucha, and/or Ground-weak mons like Heatran etc Psychic Terrain Teams: Tapu Lele + Psychic Seed Unburden Hawlucha, and/or Expanding Force users like Alakazam, pokemon weak to priority moves cuz they get blocked by the terrain, etc Electric Terrain Teams: Tapu Koko + Electric Seed Unburden Hawlucha, and/or Surge Surfer Alolan Raichu, Rising Voltage users, etc Misty Terrain Teams: Not really a dedicated team strategy unless Tapu Fini + Misty Seed Unburden Hawlucha. Usually you'd just see Tapu Fini on a team by itself without basing it around Misty Terrain, though it can still be useful to help prevent status on other Pokemon.
@perladel952 жыл бұрын
@@LordEmvee Wow, let's go! Yeah, that's basically all you can do in OU with terrains. In lower tiers of course you have similar stuff. You still exploit weakened EQ for your steel and fire types and you use other Unburden mons like Thievul and Hitmonlee. But actually there's more: generally a grassy terrain team has more than one mon that exploits Grassy Glide (like a Choice banded flapple). Then you have also a Simple mon in Swoobat: grassy/electric seed gives +2 defense and calm mind gives +2 sp.atk and +2 sp.def, so you get a powerful Stored power as well (you have also heat wave for steel types). To conclude you have also Clawitzer and Blastoise that can use Terrain Pulse: that move is a nuke if used by Clawitzer while it really helps Shell Smash Stoise to deal with other Blastoise.

Grass starter it is. From the looks of it, it seems it's going to be a fast physical attacker which is what I'd absolutely love to have considering the success rillaboom got. Fire starter looks good but I'm kinda sure it's going to be slow af but let's wait! Water ducklett well not a fan but it's possibly going to be a balanced one. I really pray they don't kill it like they did to samurott/inteleon.
@mr.sandman73392 жыл бұрын
I'll never forgive GF for what they did with Samurott, esp since Dewott is my favorite water type. Of all the mons to show as quadrupedal, THAT was the one they picked. The samurai that apparently CAN stand on 2 legs because it's supposed to hold its shell swords in its hands. They even had a chance to improve it in PLA but basically just did a slight color change for the regional form. On top of that, it doesn't really stand out for anything in particular in competitive. It's not even terrible enough to be a joke, just mediocre and disappointing all around.
@mayuresh21942 жыл бұрын
@@mr.sandman7339 I mean yeah that's certainly not as trash as beautifly but it's just confused (if offensive or defensive) and if offensive (physical or special) And yeh PLA could've easily bettered the design but no they just like add some spiky things and put a filter and bamm new form. I see a lot of these guides and while I appreciate that they're trying to help, they always feel unfinished to me. I'm certainly not into _hardcore competitive_ but I'm not an idiot and I enjoy teambuilding and play online, though generally with sub-optimal Pokemon and movesets, because they're more fun, frankly. What always feels left out to me about these videos is this: So you've chosen Wormadam to build a team around, and you immediately dove into building for specific attacks from specific Pokemon, outspeeding, or OHKOing, but you don't say _WHY_ you're looking at those specific Pokemon/attacks. While I'm sure it makes perfect sense to you and any other hardcore teambuilder, it's not clear to me why you're focused on OHKOing Heatran and Lucario (because they're popular and have Ground weaknesses, is that all?), surviving Latios (???) and Azumarill. Especially starting a team from scratch, it seems completely arbitrary to me. I'm not saying this to be critical and I certainly understand the idea behind type coverage and more casual teambuilding, and I understand that it can be really hard to explain (expert blind spot), but there's nothing particularly obvious or clear about why you're choosing to OHKO/survive/outspeed what you are, and that's really not helpful. "Try to outspeed/OHKO/survive the Pokemon you want" isn't really useful advice. "Try to survive/OHKO/outspeed _these particular Pokemon for these reasons_" would be much more helpful.
@LordEmvee2 жыл бұрын
Sure. So to clarify those points, The reason of why I chose Wormadam-Sand was just as an example to show the general thought process on how to build a team around any Pokemon. There was no reasoning behind me choosing Wormadam other than it was a random Pokemon I found on the list of lower tier Pokemon that I had not built around before so it served as an example. The first step as I said was to figure out what role your chosen Pokemon will play. Wormadam-Sand has a few sets it can run just at a first glance depending on whether you want to go a more defensive or offensive build. Since I decided that I wanted to go a more offensive route, I began by looking at its moves to see if it had any setup boosting moves. Quiver Dance is its best option, so I chose that move because I want to make it threatening to other Pokemon. Leading up to this point in the video, I said that a prerequisite to building your own teams was to have knowledge of the specific metagame you are playing in, which means that you'll likely build better teams if you know what you will commonly run up against. Now since Wormadam-Sand doesn't get any Special Attacking Ground type attacks in BDSP, I went with Earthquake. Because Quiver Dance won't be boosting the attack stat, we needed to make sure Earthquake OHKO's common Pokemon in the format, like Heatran, Lucario, etc. Due to Wormadam's base 79 Attack stat, it likely won't KO standard 252 HP Heatran by itself (as we saw it needed investment in Attack or a damage boosting item of some sort). It needed Life Orb to OHKO Heatran and 4 EVs in Attack to guarantee OHKO Lucario and as we know the guaranteed OHKO is important on strong attackers like those so it doesn't have the chance to touch our Wormadam. Now since Latios is one of the more popular Psychic types in the game and Wormadam's strongest move paired with Quiver Dance is Bug Buzz, we want to ensure that Wormadam can survive Latios so that it can actually retaliate back with Bug Buzz and have the chance to KO it back. Due to strong and popular priority users in the tier that run Aqua Jet to move first (such as Azumarill and Crawdaunt), we invested those Defense EVs to guarantee live the Aqua Jet (due to it being Super Effective against Wormadam-Sand) and do some good damage back with Giga Drain. Giga Drain is also useful to deal with Quagsire. Since Quagsire has the ability Unaware, it is one of the common ways alongside Clefable to ignore damage boosts from any setup sweeper. Essentially when I say "Try to outspeed/OHKO/survive the Pokemon you want", it's entirely up to you dependent on the Pokemon you are building around. The bottom line is that we EV based on what is most commonly seen and what the Pokemon you are building around is capable of dealing with. Assign EVs to walls to tank certain hits and EV bulkier setup sweepers to be able to withstand an attack as you set up or even after you set up and do enough damage back so they hopefully cannot stand. Ultimately you'll first need to know the common threats and stuff. Hope this helps and feel free to lemme know if you have any other questions :)

@@LordEmvee Ur the goat for explaining that so thoroughly to this guy. Also, I love weather teams but I'm having a hard time building a Leafeon Sun team for Sword and Shield OU. I have Torkoal, Leafeon, whatever fire type (usually Victini cus V-Create in sun is a nuke but sometimes I go with Heatran) then a defogger, and a ground type. But opposing Heatrans are really a bitch to me and the rain matchup is kinda hard. Could u provide me with some suggestions :< much appreciated.

@@dirkauditore8413 Absolutely! :) So I assume since you said Victini this is going to be for Gen 8. There are a few ways of dealing with opposing Heatran on a sun team. Venusaur does it well by running Earth Power on its Growth set, but since your Chlorophyll user is Leafeon, you can always run Power Herb + Dig to deter it. Your own Heatran can be more offensive on a Sun team so that it can have the guaranteed Fire immunity while also being able to outrun most other Heatran sets and KO back with perhaps Specs Earth Power (since many of them are more SpDef). For the Rain matchup, I generally like to keep some kind of wall or lure on the sun team I'm using. For example, Umbreon is a Pokemon that can give some Rain teams trouble with how bulky it is, how Foul Play does great damage, and how Wish + Protect can stall out opposing weather based teams. Alternatively, from watching me you probably know how sometimes I like to run a Pokemon with random electric move to lure and OHKO Pelipper rain teams, so something like that could be viable (maybe Electric move Dragonite for example, and Dragonite also helps with opposing Heatran).

QOTD: all the starters for gen 9 are fire but I'll definitely cop Quaxly. Huge fan of bird Pokemon, and considering Rowlet's evolution line went with glasses and a hoodie, I'm excited to see what happens with Quaxly and their hat
