You asked for politic constructive comments, so I hope you will take this experienced advice in the goodwill it was intended.I have been a survivalist since the early 70's and would like to share these tips to this well made video.1. You can get some really good EDC bags at second hand stores for only a few bucks.2. Your EDG vehicle bag MUST...MUST have wheels on it. You do not know if you or the person tasked with hauling it is physically up to the task if you have to be mobile and leave the vehicle. Almost anyone can roll a bag behind them with no trouble,3. Mylar BAGS are better than the blankets.4. No need for 3 types of water containers. Get solid opaque ones that will not crush. The treatment pills also work best in an opaque container.5. You will need a cup to dip the water you will drink with your LifeStraw.6. Sparking fire starters are not near as easy to use as BIC lighters. Their packaging is also waterproof. Get 1,000 of them and put them everywhere. 7. Get a quality Leatherman rather than a low quality multitool. You will thank yourself later when the scissors actually work and the pliers grip correctly.8. A folding saw is more compact than a machete with a saw back....and won't shred your hand when digging through your bag. I know!9. Include some OTC meds and hard individually wrapped candy. The kids will enjoy the candy, and you might not need to use the headache meds then....and keep some CHOCOLATE hard candy to the wife. ALL will be happier in a stressful situation on the side of the road if you do.These were hard lessons learned, and I hope you will enjoy the input as I have enjoyed your video.

How about a folding baby stroller to carry your pack? It's somewhat inconvenient, but bad guys may leave you alone out of sympathy. If you had a fanny pack for each of the kids that would help you physically and them psychologically - by sharing the load they sense the value of being part of the team. That and a sense of security having their own water pouch.

@selenepickins48747 жыл бұрын
Reuse, re-purpose, recycle! Never be embarrassed that you're the kind of man who doesn't waste anything. It's a valuable trait now &, I fear, one that in the future those who survive will all possess. Good job! Dunno if you have it, but with kids you might want to & that's antibiotic ointment, maybe some moleskine if you end up having to hike it & get blisters or the kids do. Thanks again for sharing.

Nice job! I would definitely add local & regional maps to your kit... And you need to go ahead and highlight your bug-out routes for your area. You never know where you'll be when the "Big one" strikes, so it's good to know good exit points.

Might be something you'd carry in your AAA bag but i have started carrying a fuel siphon in my vehicles and think it's one of the most likely items to get me out of a pinch. I'm convinced in the event of a SHTF fuel is going be a number one commodity.

Have you tried to siphon fuel out of a cars gas tank? Many new cars have a 'back flow' preventer in the neck/tank to prevent fuel from spilling in the event of an overturn accident. It also makes it difficult to siphon out fuel. fyi

Not exactly for prepping but... Keep in your vehicle a length of rigid pipe about an inch or so inner diameter and 2ft long. Dealers and shops can put lug nuts on super tight ( I always ask that they are torqued to specs). Still, getting leverage with the vehicle supplied lug wrench bar can be near impossible because of the thinness and/or the length of the bar. My two foot pipe has hockey stick grip tape around it on the ends to get a good grip.

Good video. Thanks for taking the time to explain. One comment about Southern California and guns. It is not illegal to have a gun (pistol) in your car. You can carry a gun in a locked box in your vehicle. In fact, you can even have it loaded and ready to go. You can not however have it unlocked. Remember you are always going to or from the range. ;) If you have your CCW then obviously you can carry a firearm where ever you go. Good luck!
@CityPrepping8 жыл бұрын
+Prophet of Doom well i learn something new every day :) where i live, getting a CCW is not too hard (riverside county), so i need to get around to doing it. i guess i've become paranoid about traveling with a firearm in my vehicle with all the silly laws here (even though i just got back from the range 40 minutes ago). do you have any links or references that you've found on having a firearm in your vehicle? i'm genuinely interested to learn more.

+City Prepping I hear you. Me too. That's funny, I live in Riverside county as well. Shoot me an email (prophetofprep@gmail.com) when you get a chance and I'll put some info together for you. Nice review with some well thought out items. I live about 1000 miles north of you... so similar earthquake concerns but different environmental concerns. I have a similar set up in the trunk of my car... but it's just me travelling to work and back so I don't have the same large group concerns. I would suggest that everything that runs off a battery use the same format. I have standardized on the AA. Also, I think you're a wee bit light on food. In any case... looking forward to more videos. We can all learn from each other and adapt to our own needs. Cheers!

Survival gear NO FOOD? cost's next to nothing trail mix , 1 kg will give 1000 calories, good nutrition , takes up little room, no cooking needed, you will be looking for food long before all your glow sticks, tape ,zip ties,walkie talkies , Yes i am sure you could survive a few weeks without food but it will make life a lot more bearable. You must find room for at least some food even emergency food . That's my thoughts.

+Rob Duncan great input...definitely plan on adding in some simple food options after reading the comments below. I carry food in the jeep as a comfort item/sometimes I’m far from civilization when I get hungry. But…the reality is that you’ll survive MONTHS with no food…at least most of us will. Carry some fishing hooks and line…and forget about carrying enough food to sustain yourself for any real period of time. A burst of energy for a hike to a gas station or home at most unless you routinely go off the beaten path.

😳omg that flashlight!😳seriously?! D batteries? Dude, 1984 called and wants you to update your illumination tools! Try these brands; Fenix, Olight, Surefire, Streamlight, Nitecore, Zebralight....lithium batteries do not leak or corrode and have a 10 year shelf life and are way more stable in extreme temperatures. Those brands use LED (not a fragile bulb) and are a fraction of the size & weight with a gazillion times more output with multiple brightness modes including strobe for emergency signaling. Also, MoraKniv (just Mora, or Mora knife, for short) ends in a V (not an L) like in the word kniVes. They're Swedish and a fantastic choice for an all purpose cutting tool!

I have to give up the vehicle EDC bag idea due to 3 car break-ins within the last 7 months. I've lost a 5.11 Rush 10, 12 and a Smith and Wesson EDC bag all since December. I can't seem to shake off the bottom feeders of society. It has become a very expensive loss and frustrating. I keep my Rush 72 B.O.B. in the house. I'm glad I don't keep firearms in my bags like I see in some videos. If and when I ever decide to build another vehicle EDC/GHB I will have to discipline myself not to leave it in the vehicle overnight.
@CityPrepping8 жыл бұрын
+camelspyder1 bummer...sorry to hear you have that problem.
@camelspyder18 жыл бұрын
Thanks. A big bummer. The most frustrating part is that they all happened in three different locations. The first happened at home on Christmas morning. The whole "crime free" neighborhood got hit with multiple cars stolen. The second happened in another part of town. The third and most recent car break-in happened just last weekend while visiting family in another state. I don't know why it keeps happening. I don't even drive a type of vehicle that stands out to attract attention.
@oldtimerocker528 жыл бұрын
sounds like you might want to think about relocating to a better part of town.
@camelspyder18 жыл бұрын
The sad thing is that I did live in a nice part of town. The trend criminals are doing now is finding nice neighborhoods with big houses and go for a crime spree. I live in another state now. Hopefully, this move got rid of my car break-in problem.

Super glue was originally designed for use in surgery, brain aneurysm , and will work but it burns till it sets up. You can buy liquid skin it doesn't burn. Howe very if you are diabetic please be careful of what you are looking for . When the.nurses changed my bandage the liquid skin pulled extra loose skin and even extra flesh making my injury more severe and took even longer to heal 7 months

Where are the tools to take care of the car/truck? If you car breaks, you are stranded and living out of your kit. If you fix the car then there is no issue. I'm not talking about flares and jumper cables. Have at least minimal kit: vise grips, a test light, channel locks, some screw drivers, wrenches, and sockets. And some spare parts, fuses, hose clamps, wire, a spare belt. a collection of essential fluids, oil, water, ATF, PS flood and brake fluid. Taking the car for granted is not being prepared, it's setting yourself up to fail.
@RuthSMontgomery6 жыл бұрын
