Shawn you remind me so much of my dad he did so much, stayed busy all the time and loved to build and restore things, fewer and fewer like him and you each generation and I blame that on society, we have let our core values and work ethics slip. I thank you for showing people there is another way and I hope this inspires them to follow in your foot steps.

I like that you do videos of different types - some with a variety of things going on, some focused on one thing, some slow and gradual, some that are condensed versions like this one, some with more conversation, teaching and opinion, and some with less. So there's something here for everyone! I'm trying to introduce more friends and family to your channels, and I realized these short summary videos are a nice way for newbies to see what you do. Then - when they're hooked like the rest of us! - they'll love the longer videos as well! [By the way, I see you're close to 700K subscribers!]

There are some folks out there who live day to day and so cut off from the rest of the world they have no idea what was, has or is in current events. That's simple living to some, but having a home, growing your own food / medicines and just everyday life is hard work. I remember when mom only went to the store for flour (25lb bag of Robin Hood), sugar and yeast. Of course there were some other items like canning lids, sewing thread, dress material. Her and my grandmother did it all. We went barefoot in summer, saved up for a new pair of shoes for school and winter time wore rubber goulashes over them for protection against the foul weather. We have too much nowadays. Kids no longer look forward to saving up for things, it's all instant gratification. I miss those days dearly, gone are the old folks who tried to teach us and now we're left with only a few memories. Appreciate what you have. If you have plenty, share and give till it hurts. Is good to be humble.

Once the oven was deemed a potential failure, did you video the correction by adding to the upper structure?....One thing I need to say is that I have had many "failures" from my prospective. I really don't think cob is the right material for a wood- fired oven. Clay? Yes, of course, there is a long history of that material being used. But the plant matter in cob, after heating and drying will become an insulator, when you want the heat to permeate everything and be retained in the walls of the oven. With cob, I'm guessing you'll get surface penetration at best, and short term heat retention. Better, I think, would have been to use bricks, or to do your best to refine your forest clay down to eliminate impurities - and then make the oven entirely out of clay . Yes, I have built a backyard pizza oven. I used a dense, clay brick, and I covered that with 2 inches of refractory concrete, which is just ready mix concrete with a good shovelful of powdered fire clay added to the mix. Cob is interesting as a building material, but I wouldn't use it on an oven.

Shawn, I over heard you say in another video that you would build the door height so you had to duck to go in the sauna. I was wondering why do this? Since you will be using it quite often, why not go one more row of logs so you can be comfortable walking in to the sauna? Just seems like you will regret not building the door way high enough. In the big scheme of things, it would not take that much longer to do. I hope you will reconsider. Love your videos. God Bless!
