Hi chaps, I have had a question - why only a single strip of nickel for parallel connections? It's a good question, the answer is because most of the current is between the series connections, of which I have 8 strips per series connection so more than enough. Each strip is rated for 35A, I'm running 90A battery between the two VESCs so each strip is passing current under 1/3rd of its actual rating.

Now that's what I call a battery Lee. Well done and wish I'd seen this before I started my battery as some good tips there. I especially liked using magnets for positioning and all the safety your using while making the battery. Easily the best video I have seen on making an esk8 battery so far and I watched loads before making mine.

Nice job Lee that's a lot of spot welds. most 18650 packs ive seen on you tube have 4 spot welds maybe 6 per cell. That is 1 well put togeather pack you is the only 1 ive seen doing that connection with the main cable spreading the load

Thank you for all this information I'm thinking about building a new battery pack for my meepo v2 till I save enough to get a proper diy board I'm pretty sure I ruined it leaving my board in the car in the summer

King Dong21 it’s possible the battery ran low and is now dead or the heat killed it. The best thing about building your own battery is you can move it to your DIY build so you only need to make it once.

Really getting into these videos man! Question, I have a few old 40v lithium ion tool batteries that I’ve taken apart. They are all Lithium ion and all 18650. Is there any danger in using a mix of these? All of them read around 3.75 volts when checked.

Hi Lee, your series is fantastic, I understood and learned a lot from this. I have a million questions running through my head. But here is the one that bothers me the most, on what should the whole system be built? if the battery is 10S8P = 37V / 160A whether the BMS should be 150A or there may be less current. Because if I use a flipsky vesc that has a current peak of 400A, will the BMS cut off the power and protect the battery. I am a beginner in diy, about how much the average current flow moves during normal use in your configuration.
@LeeWright
@LeeWright 3 жыл бұрын
If the battery can only provide 160A then that's all it can provide, if you want a discharge BMS then pick one that can do just over your max discharge rate.
@mekotvrdo2881
@mekotvrdo2881 3 жыл бұрын
@@LeeWright OK thanks, and will there be enough battery of these characteristics 10S/8P 30Q Samsung, for two engines 6374 max 80A and flipsky vesc 6.6 to push me 80 kg. And once again which BMS should I put on the battery? When I open the link from your BMS tell me that that BMS has 10S-15 and working currents. Is that ok?
@mekotvrdo2881

What would you get if you went from 10s8p to 12s8p? How would your board benefit?
@jeffreyh1025
@jeffreyh1025 4 жыл бұрын
So, getting my battery plans nailed down, I think I am either going to go with a 10s8p like you, or a 12s7p. Since I’m using a 190kv motor with a 4.8:1 gear ration, my top speed is like 28mph with the 10s and 32ish mph with the 12s. Those are theoretical, but I think I am leaning towards the 12s7p, because it’s supposed to give ~24mph. Anyways, enough back story, have you had any issues with the 12AWG wires, and the current draw? I think the specs of our boards are fairly similar, and just wanted some reassurance on the wires. I bought some 12AWG using your link! Looking forward to the BMS I bought off your site!
@LeeWright
@LeeWright 4 жыл бұрын
use the 10AWG and fo 12S bro! Actually, I think you bought the BMS off of us already - happy building!
@jeffreyh1025
@jeffreyh1025 4 жыл бұрын
Lee Wright haha true I did buy the 12s BMS from you, and going with a 10s would probably need a different BMS? I am going with the 12s7p, though!

Awesome stuff man, been thinking alot about battery setups, was going to make a bunch of 1s10p packs and then connect them in series with xt60's and a custom pcb, they are rated safe for 30 amps but can easily be used up to 100 amps, any thoughts on this ?
@LeeWright
@LeeWright 5 жыл бұрын
If they can be used up to 100A you will be ok generally, your battery max is only ever seen briefly during normal conditions. if you do a lot of hills maybe find something else better.

Do you know anywhere in the UK I can buy a good battery pack? I got a cheap esk8, was about $400 and it takes '18650 10S3P 36V 7.5Ah 270Wh' according to the specs. I'm looking a spare, which from asking around facebook groups I've been told will be better than the one that came with it if I use good batteries. I was going to do it myself until I saw some videos. If I google it all I get is wish and aliexpress. I would really like to get my range up by having a spare in my bag.
