Choosing between an in-round fire pit and one that is raised above the level of the yard, is really a matter of the owners tastes. The things that i would like to point out are the following's: - the drainage pipe that goes underneath the pit, will melt after the first use, because heat dissipates into the ground. Everybody that has ever cleaned a pit the next day, after a party, will tell you that even if you scoop the ash and the dirt out, it's still going to be hot like a half of meter under... - being an in-ground pit, it lacks air for combustion. If you are not running some metal pipes from the surface towards the core, in order for the fire to feed it's self, you will end-up smoking everybody around it, because the fire tries to suck all the air from above and laterals, and will struggle to keep constantly feeding it's self . Just try to have a fire anywhere outside and stand close to it. You will immediately notice that the smoke comes towards you when you get closer. This is because you take vital air from it's position and that part of the fire will not be fed according to it's needs and smoke will be directed towards you.

a lot of below ground pits burn poorly, from a lack of oxegen at the base, causing a rush of air around the sides, pushing cinders and hot ash higher into the air, I built several above ground, and always leave several gaps at the base for oxegen flow, keeping the fire mellow and sparks down. The native Americans use firepits inside their lodges, with sloping sides and a stone capped tunnel to draw outside air to the fire at its base!...A single spark, can burn down a tipi!

there needs to be metal pipes going from the inside pit to vents in the ground a few feet away to allow air in to feed the fire. cinder blocks will break down and Crack and will be a pain to remove and replace if you choose this design. plastic piping like shown will melt. those lava rocks will interfere when scooping out the old ash which will accumulate. this looks nice but is so wrong on so many levels. it's mind boggling how complex the awfulness is.

would the process be the same if I was going to use polished stones as the final result instead of paver stones?
@lowes
@lowes 7 жыл бұрын
Are you referring to small tumbled stones, or larger pavers with a sheen on them? If you're talking about the bags of small stones, you'll need some additional structure around the inner fire pit edge to hold them in place. If you're talking about shiny pavers, you'll just need to make sure they can withstand some indirect heat. Other than that, process should be similar to what you see here.
@verrettjared
@verrettjared 7 жыл бұрын
Lowe's Home Improvement yes I was referring to bags of polished stones. But even if i dont do a fireplace the beginning process is what I was questioning.
@lowes
@lowes 7 жыл бұрын
Gotcha. Just laying small stones is actually even simpler than this paver method we showed. You really only need a layer of landscape fabric underneath to keep mud and weeds out. Then you can embed your patio area a couple inches into the ground, OR use some kind of edge barrier (i.e. bricks, stones, landscape edging) to hold it all in place. Good luck & thanks for watching, Jared!

That poor man probably realized it too, now he spends his nights at the local pub drinking himself into a stupor before returning home. He stares at himself in the mirror and internally questions his worth and why his wife hasn't left him yet. His children no longer respect him and his mother-in-law constantly reminds his wife that Todd, the boy that had a crush on her in high-school, is single and is a partner at firm he works at.
