This project was inspired by the Bower Power Blog - Original tutorial HERE: www.bowerpower...
FOR THIS PROJECT YOU WILL NEED:
MATERIALS LIST (FOR TWO PLANTERS):
(8) 5/8” X 5-1/2" @8FT PT PINE DOG EAR PCKT (stackable boxes)
(8) 1 X 2 @8FT (outer side frames) **1x3s would work too
(1) 2X2 @8FT (inside supports)
(2) 15” Plastic Planters
1-1/4” Nails
2” Nails
Exterior Wood Glue
MEASUREMENT CUTS:
For ONE Planter:
2x2 @ around 15 7/8”
5 degree angles:
(8) 1x2s @ length of planter @ around 33 3/4”
3 1/2 degree angles:
(4) dog ear @16 3/4”
(4) dog ear @16”
(4) dog ear @15”
(4) dog ear @14 1/8”
(4) dog ear @13 1/4”
(4) dog ear @12 1/4”
TOOLS:
Tape Measurer
Miter Saw
Nailer
Large Clamp
Wood Filler + Putty Knife
Sander + 120 Grit Sandpaper
Stain/Paint + Paint Supplies
STEP ONE:
Build 6 tiers of stackable boxes (measurements above) with 3 1/2 degree angles, wood glue, 1 1/4” nails and nailer. ***Pay special attention to the overlap/underlap technique to ensure a perfect square each time.
STEP TWO:
Outer side frames. I cut the 1x2s the length of the planter at a 5 degree angle. First I fastened the two 1x2s together with wood glue and 1 1/4” nails. Then I applied more wood glue and attached to planters, fastened with 2” nails, nailing into the end grain of each stacked box.
STEP THREE:
Inside supports (2x2s). I measured where the supports would sit three inches from the top. You can just rest the 2x2s on the sides or nail them in. I secured mine with one 2” nail on each end. Then place the plastic planter inside.
STEP FOUR:
Finishing. I filled all nail holes with wood filler, sanded with 120 grit, wiped down, stained/sealed.

Once a week I upload a new DIY video.

Why do you keep saying dog eared board ? It’s even in the directions Dog eared board is the top part of a fence board that with the two corners cut off as far as I know . ( I watched the video 3 times to see if I missed something 😄) I love the planter by the way.

Should have nailed 1x2 to the cedar boards at a 5 degree angle. Then cut 2 sides attached to the cedar boards. And then nail the remaining planks. Too much cutting involved.
