Ive been recruiting in wow for quite some time and in my experience getting too many friends in your recruitment process is also a sticky situation because friends tend to stick together. If one friend decides he isnt happy, they all may leave as a group. Package deals are the worst.

How to Build and Maintain a Raiding Guild: Never stop going big dick
@andrewroach11948 жыл бұрын
Leading a raid guild is tough, but I've learned a lot through my time doing it. First of all, a lot of the time you need to separate your emotions from your guild. I'm not talking about being a hardass and ruling with an iron fist. I'm talking about taking things personal and for that reason letting your morale, and inevitably the teams morale down. For example, someone, who you thought would stick around for a long time just decides to bail on the guild. You assume it's something to do with you or something you could've done better. Letting this get to you is going to affect your ability to lead your guild, maybe it's a raid night when it happened. Going hand in hand with this, you'll need to accept that you simply cannot please everyone and if someone decides that your goals do not align with their goals, you need to part ways professionally. One final point I'd like to make is that the people you choose as officers need to be people you trust and know will listen and follow your dream. We all have friends. Sometimes these friends are good as friends but make terrible officers because they think they can get the preferential treatment (Asmongold says it best). My best recommendation is if you know that down the road someone will not be willing to listen to you, do not choose them for officer and make it clear that it is to save your friendship. Having them be a member will save your friendship, asking them to step down or leave will not. Learning these three important things, among many others, will be vital to your success as a guild master. I hope my words were helpful to someone out there aspiring to be a GM.

In the guild that I raided (made it as a raid leading officer, led for 5 months before quitting the game) we had an in between rank that I thought was actually kinda working. We had alts, socials,trails, raider, marshal, officer and GM ranks with marshal being the inbetween one. The only bonus marshals had was that they got flasks cheeper than raiders from the guild bank ( We had guild comsumables) , it wasnt even that much it was like 100 gold cheaper ( back when flasks didnt cost like 10 bilion gold a piece). The marshal rank was just as a sign of respect for people who have been raiding with the guild for 10 months + ( the guild was 2 years old when I joined and was together for 3 more after that). We also had class leaders( yeah I know...), but it wasnt like a big thing, just the best of the lets say mages ( cuz it was me ) and once a month I'd gather all the mages in TS and just talk about class tactics, dps, mechanics, general stuff to improve our gameplay. And like you've said, most people play the game to be a part of a community, personally its what kept me playing the game every day for so long, we had very little drama, and I knew every time that I join Ts that I'd have a couple of laughs and kill some bosses. At a point its not even about killing shit, just being a part of a team that just gets things done and has some laughs along the way (we actually had a couple of realm first kills, nothing special, but we werent really trying to go for it, just happened). Sadly the guild kinda fell apart due to life mostly, we grew up, got jobs, families and shit, but I still have those memories and I look at them with nostalgia. To anyone that isnt in a guild, find one that suits you, I promise the game becomes a lot better! PS:Sorry for the wall of text. PS2: I still play the game on a new account, mostly doing Mythic+, but I'd consider myself a filthy casual.

Thanks a ton for the information, guy. Been playing for only about a year and I decided it's about time I actually joined some guilds with my characters because it'd be good for me. Pretty much everyone seems to recommend it. Though finding a good guild's difficult. Obviously finding a guild isn't hard, but finding one that I'm looking for. Although the main reason I clicked was because I was actually looking to create my own. Though it would mainly be a RP guild with the other stuff being secondary. Without really going into detail, my character was second in command in a band of Robin Hood like thieves and she's trying to rebuild. Now the thing I'm worried about is that I'm still very much learning plenty of stuff about the game and have never been in a guild. With this, you have given me both good advice and some confidence. And with that, I thank you very much sir, and wish me luck.

I actually left my raiding guild because there were a few players that only thought about themselves and not the rest of the raid. They were eventually turning every raid night into 4 guildies and a pug after kicking mostly everyone who signed up. I felt the burnout knowing that I would be removed because I didn't like doing mythic dungeons all day every day to keep up.

Great video Asmongold! I recently took up an officer rank in my mythic progression guild and we've had to handle of lot of these issues. From toxic players leaving which led to others leaving, to loot council complaints, to just recruitment in general. It's refreshing to be reassured that we're handling the issues in similar ways that you've described. As you said more or less said, it will all pay off in the end. I wish guilds actually cared about the player development stuff you mentioned. I have yet to get into any decent guilds and always end up in guilds with 3-4 decent players carrying a bunch of average/bad players. I've always constantly performed very well for my ilvl but most people don't bother to look at that. All they see is your low HPS/DPS/whatever and just assume you're shit. It doesn't seem to matter that you're doing the same HPS/DPS as others in the group that are 20 ilvls above you... It's always really frustrating when people aren't benched after failing to move out of a simple mechanic 20 wipes in a row. I always end up behind in gear power because I get burned out when dealing with these guilds and eventually quit. When I come back I'm always too far behind that I can never catch up and no decent guilds ever care enough to give me a chance. I've been thinking for the past year about just making my own guild so I can play with quality players that actually want to just clear content since I'm having so much trouble finding one myself. The problem is that it seems like such an impossible task to create something like that from scratch.

I recently made a guild called The Restless with some friends a couple weeks ago. I like how we chose to name it that because me as the guild master plays for hours and hours everyday sometimes not sleeping because I am trying hard to achieve something within a small time frame. All the other people I made the guild with are different in that they play different games alot and aren't as invested into wow as I am. So I am trying to recruit more people like me who are very active, and are willing to spend hours progressing through raids as well as networking gold farms, and old content completion. This video helped me find some clarity on where I want my guild to go, thanks for the quality content

Another thing in regards to parsing the raid to see who performs the best is either make sure to take into account loss in single player DPS to assist the raid achieve more. As a multiboxer from the worthless eq2 game I find debuffs or even certain specific items spells can garner more raid or group value than simple heal or dps numbers from their respective classes
@baranziah39876 жыл бұрын
Such as my bard losing some dps for a group heal proc and giving my warden slightly more points into dps gives more overall dps and heals due to stat value which needs to be considered when judging somebody for their parse

What's your thoughts on people leaving the guild and wanting to join back for whatever reason? We've had a few people feel like loot wasn't distributed fairly and leave because of it, it's kinda put pressure to distribute loot as to not offend anyone rather than who it would help the most. People within the guild also aren't a huge fan of inviting people back after they leave to trial for a new guild and coming back whenever it doesn't work out. Any ways to smooth over the process? Or should those players be avoided regardless?
@asmongold13418 жыл бұрын
It's a case to case basis but for the most part I'm not a fan of re-inviting people

Zachary agree with Asmond. I've ran guilds/clans since 02. My philosophy then was u leave, u cut all ties and you were banned from comms. Now I'm more liberal, definitely case by case. But generally u want people that are loyal to the Guild no matter what. Not people that leave at the first sign of trouble.
@malletin8 жыл бұрын
If they leave on bad terms, inviting them back could instigate drama which is bad for the guild as a whole. It is possible that the person returning has changed their mentality but in most cases it is a facade that eventually fades once they've passed their new trial and feel they have secured their position somewhat.

Its easy to set goals but keeping them is hard for majority of guilds. For instance you have guilds that are being advertised as progression 4 night a day Mythic guilds but in reality they are 2 night a week heroic guilds with 1 mythic boss down and people showing up only on farm days. Also I think its very important that most of the guild be of equal skill in terms of dps and situational awareness.
@BJMcB928 жыл бұрын
My guild can clear raids on Heroic after enough pulls and strategy, and have healers and tanks that are in the top 10 in the realm according to wowprogress, I would say they are elite players that can absolutely do Mythic content. The problem we are having is expanding our very good core which is about 12-16 people at any given raid and making that push into Mythic difficulty. I get anxious that we are not growing the team fast enough and that people will leave or be poached by other guilds that have been around longer with better progression.
@TieJote8 жыл бұрын
To what you say about cliques; I myself am pretty much part of such a thing; we dont sit in our own channel, but if e.g. there is mythic+ being done after raid, it is always us in pretty much the same constellation. Yet we try kinda succesfully to let raid lead and guild, which is actually one person here, and officers do their jobs. The thing is, like, we, red flag asa it maay be, consider ourselves the better players or more tryhard players in the raid. There are others that are equally or higher skilled, but less competitive in mindset or even bound by real life. So, like, what should we do? I don't think that wen can leave that clique for the sake of our own character progress, but obviously it is bad if e.g. out of 2 shamans one feels, and might be, much better than the other and thus doesnt play with him at all.

I certainly don't not have Legion and I am topped out at 100. so I guess I am asking what would you do about being a raid guild and starting it without having top tier gear. would you wait until you have a well geared toon? or would you try to establish a balanced community starting as casual and mid progression to help form relations with guild members?

Hi asmongold. Our new guild is wanting to start mythic progression but our classes are unbalanced. We have: 3 Paladins, 4 warriors (2prot 1 fury 1 arms) 1 Mage (frost) 2 hunters (all BM hunters) 3 priests (2 disc 1 holy which is our raid leader) 1 DK (unholy) 2 rouges (one sub one combat) and 1 DH ( havoc ) and also a resto Druid. We don't have any warlocks/ other mages and we're gonna recruit up to 25 players for our main group. (5 for subs in heroic and 5 for mythic) we've got 1 disc priest not in the team ATM. What would your advice be to set up a proper raid team for mythic?

I have to agree with your raider argument. There's a lot of raiding guilds that have "raider" rank and "core raider rank". I was actually part of a guild and I was a Core Raider and on good terms with the guild leader/officers. I could see how this was unfair and since with loot council Core Raiders were getting loot over regular raiders. Also, if we're in a new tier or new expansion what gives a core raider more right on loot than raider? I don't think it should. This is assuming you don't have a shit players in your guild and if you do you should just let them go.
@WraghEU8 жыл бұрын
I think you missed one point from practice point of view. IF someone wants to make new guild to raid a Mythic raids on hardcore/semi-hardcore lvl it will take not a day or two and not even sometimes a tier or two. If you want it quick you have to bring a lot of people on that raiding level already to start with to bring new ones to the guild without feeling them gambling their nearest raid progression with fresh guild. You told about making a goal to aim for.... but it should be also reachable goal. Lets say ok we are 12 players with raiding ambitions to be good in it....lets progress current tier on HC mode and try to build a fundation and bring to our ranks more good players to aim for Mythic mode in later futer or next tier if we don't get to that kind of level on this tier. If someone tries to make a Mythic top5 realm guild with his 5 other friends from the scraps we probably will not succed that in short time. And that should be know from the start to not have members feeling bad because "welll we did 7/7hc but you told that this will be mythic guild when im was joing and we dont even have 20ppl in the roster still" etc.
@TheOriginalSharkWithALaser8 жыл бұрын
Hey Asmongold, I'm sort of at the opposite end of this. I'm a heroic raider looking to make the leap over to a Mythic raiding guild since my current one has such a thin roster (~ 10). Any advice on what I should be wary of when applying or what to take into consideration? Thanks!

Get used to failing, idk how much turnover we had during M EN progression because they are used to killing a boss in 5 pulls. not everyone learns at the same rate and not everyone plays the same way. It takes time but it always dies.. I feel like many players now dont know what real progression was like, wiping on Kael thas for like a month, 100 some wipes on our server first lady vashj.

Hey asmongold, I've been in this guild for around 3 months now and at first we weren't enough to do 20 man mythics so we now merged with a "casual" guild and i feel the guild is not what it should be. We have been wipping on farm conent because people cant do simple mechanics. I am thinking about leaving this guild for another competitive guild but what really pulls me back is the god friends ive made in this guild. What should i do?

So Question for you Asmongold, i myself am not a GM but too many times i have seen the issue where one guy in a raid is always the problem, causing wipes because they didn't do the raid mechanics correctly, constantly showing up late for a raid, sometimes not even showing up but demanding a spot when they do. If said person is a problem Most of the time i would assume to kick them however what would you do if that person was heavily liked by practically everyone in the guild even if they were toxic as hell, Thanks Asmongold for the help as im starting my own guild and was curious what to do if this were to happen.

Good video. I've been a GM for three years. I've had all the problems you talked about. My current problem is too many alts in the guild. I want to create an alt guild so that I only have mains in the guild. Most ppl in my guild have a full roster plus extras. It's doing my head in. My raid leader says it's a bad idea.

With a long video like this covering a broad range of topics, you should really consider including timestamps to the different topics you cover in the description.

While some of this got repetitive (particularly regarding communicating goals to the Officer core, which definitely is important to be fair) this was a great video. It makes sense why Asmon ended up in a leadership position as time went on.

Hey Asmongold i was wondering if I could join your guild. I have been guildless for a while and want to do night hold. I'm only a 869 frost dk but i have all my main artifact traits. Is there anywhere I can sign up?

To late Asmongold, to f*cking late! ;-) I had a raiding guild, since release. We went from normal to Herioc and than for some reason the guild stopped working. We always had 2 type of gamers in the guild. The real raiders, who played mythic+ every single week. And were way ahead of the more casual gamers. We had a 'personal loot' rule. All raids were on personal loot. No drama about loot. We also carried newly joined people, who wanted to raid with us. I and my fellow raiders, were on 865 2weeks after mythic+ released. But the problem is keeping people in the guild. If you dont wipe and down every boss the first time, people dont cry. But for some reason we were wiping on a boss on herioc (in october). Eventually, My raidleader left, because of his frustration about NOT dropping a legendary and seeing a casual in the guild have 2 legendaries drop in 1 week. After he left, some raidmembers burned out. Eventually 4months after release of Legion the guildraiding stopped. (and my guild had a real lore heavy based guildname.) Also getting good officers, who want to help but dont want to carry the 'GM' title. Also, On Silvermoon their is a LOT OF COMPETITION on the realm.
