I think I'd go with the stock(ish) 454 for towing. Because I'm sure it'd have enough torque for whatever I'd be towing and probably more reliable.

Cool stuff Richard. My current project is 500 caddy pushed out to 540 cid. Th400 and GV overdrive going in my brother's 74 F250 super cab for pulling our camper/horse trailer. Going with a dual turbo setup with a bunch of goodies from Cad Co. I loved your turbo caddy video. So looking at 870 lbsft 3400 rpm give or take cross fingers and we'll see. Hi ho silver

After being spoiled by towing with lightly modified 12v cummins diesels, I would probably stick with one of those for fuel efficiency and multi hundred thousand mile overhaul intervals. That said, if I had to use a bbc to tow with, the 454 with the bigger of the two blowers would probably be my choice. Not turning much rpm would help with mileage and engine durability. Fuel would be an absolute killer with any of these though.

I went to a Chaffey College car show in the past. I talked to a racer with a 350 motor, and he had a root style supercharger. He said would get about 600 HP, and he would change pulleys at the 1/4 mile. I am curious what would be a good compression ratio for his application? What parts of the motor should be forged for a blower application crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons?
@richardholdener17275 ай бұрын
static compression depends on octane and other components (like cam). Forged internals are a good idea for high hp applications

I suppose if I found a Whipple 8.1 Vortec kit (or2) I might build engines to go under them. I have a 3500 8.1 Allison and I'd like to have a Suburban 2500 8.1 4L80E. I might even want a Monroe Kodiak 8.1 Allison if I am ever able to return to racing.

least with a turbo, the heat from the air pressure going up makes the turbine slow down because exhaust heat is a static expansion over displacement. hellcat heat knock unless it has 110 in it... AC bypass into the intercooler only goes so far anyways. Air Conditioning... snow plow Gas is fine... tho the heat of summer makes a Diesel engine look fine, as those operating ranges are different.
