I am a concrete superintendent for a major industrial company, it’s great to see no rebar touching the ground, everything straight level and plumb. You and your crew do some clean and quality work, my hats off to you and your crew.

4:03 to about 4:25 that rebar from the piers should have more development length and the staggered heights of the rebar ''heads'' on each column is not recommended. Stirrup spacing should be closer at the columns also 6:17 should have stirruped your pier rebar heads and maybe even 90 degree them towards each beam direction == as it stands now, they are slightly assisting in rotation of the grad beam if a force attempts to slide them or rotate them down the hillside. 8:01 I see your grade beam and more of "heel" might help in resisting turn-over forces. 8:04 mud on steel is just a bond breaker and the top of stirrups lack any top steel (laterally) . 8:33 put that lateral steel inside the stirrups. The spacing of the vertical steel is awesome, I like the close spacing. 8:35 lap the steel tighter. Impalement protection at ground height. 12:57, I like the corners ... 16:38 at end of wall, I can imagine water retention behind this wall system (increasing pressure) and possible rotation off of pier heads with the little development of rebar... you could have ran those as tall as the wall with close stirrups (using and offset design). Some drainage ports would have been nice to find in this wall system fyi. I am guessing you worked with structural plans and possibly a geo-engineer, so please pass on my comments to them and have them reach out to me if they do not understand the value I am offering here.

Appreciate the feed back.. And yes we work with 3 engineers on this project and we pass all inspections rebar (piers, grade beam and wall) , soils framing etc. But I'll pass it along.. 👍🏾👍🏾 And yes a full French drain system is in place.. Out here these walls

Aside from the fact that its inspected and passed code by the architect and city engineers, you are talking nonsense. The city inspect and approve the rebar. You only see a vid are not wise enough to keep your fingers away from the keyboard.

That is a brilliant Vid. Am guessing the piers go down to bedrock, so about 16 feet to bedrock... Did you guys have to drill into the bedrock to get a fixing? I used to be a geologist as well as a carpenter....lol. A bit of both Worlds here. The Bay area need to tie everything down to bedrock because of earthquakes and soil liquefaction. This should tie the property to the deck and stop it slipping downhill. But that is some impressive engineering, and no doubt exceeding code.

Ideally you would shore it up.. But this dirt was super hard and it was only little bit that was over 5 feet..
@adem-Savs Жыл бұрын
If you see the sides crumbling when you are digging, then its wise to shore it up. If its not crumbling or slumping and its not going to rain, you gonna be OK. Most of the time if the soil is well compacted, its not gonna move. Its only bad when you have soil that's been turned over or backfill. In this case, its not too deep, not an issue.

I'm forming a foundation wall with 2x6's that I will use to frame the walls of a shop. I plan to space the ties 4' o.c. That sound right? Also, the Simpson catalog says not to form a wall using wedge ties that is more than 4' tall. Seems that they work fine for your tall pours. What gives? Your wall forming is Impressive.
@AllAccessConstruction8 ай бұрын
4 inch on center sounds a bit overkill..minimum we do is 12 inches on center.. Yea not sure where that 4 foot theory came from.. We have built as high as 12 feet.. Bracing is important. Good lick with the project
@nathanielunderwood5233 Жыл бұрын
So, you allow for the footing to dry before you pour the wall? I'm doing a DIY retaining wall in my back yard...it's about 150ft x 4ft high...just using your videos as a learning tool, you do good work...I'm not using 2x12 because I have nowhere to put them once done, so I'm renting symon forms for the project.

@@AllAccessConstruction Structural engineer is finalizing now. Have to build three hillside homes and the accompanying road, which will need 125 foot retaining wall, 10-12 feet high. Homes will have piers/caissons, and will also need a baby retaining wall for the road in front of the homes. I have almost everything priced out except for this portion, so it's kind of keeping me up at nights.

Anyone that doesn't put rebar caps on is a fool. I have a mate that lost one of his eyes on uncapped protruding rebar. He bent over to pick something up and the rebar pierced his eye and went so deep it came within millimetres of his brain.
