I now have a credit score of 967 with Experian and have been offered better APR's on finance products. Thank you so much for your solid and professional advice. I've just applied for a credit card (AQUA as i have a bad score). If the balance is 0 and limit at 450, if i buy something for 200 which makes my outstanding balance for 200. What happens there? Do I pay monthly towards the cost and will that improve my score? I'm really confused.
@bearnecessiteespolio53598 ай бұрын
@@patriox6151the simplest way the explain the most important thing is this; you pay the borrowing (aka the balance) down to nothing every month. So in your example you pay back that £200, to bring your balance to zero. It can get quite confusing, so the simplest way to do it, is just make sure you setup a monthly direct debit with the credit card company that pays the balance in full. Then you don't need to do anything, ever. Except spend £50-£200 ISH in each month. And make sure you e got that cash in your normal account on the direct debit date each month. This all just means you are proving to future lenders that you can reliably borrow a bit, and pay it back each month for years.

Even I can clear my balance in one go, I generally just pay a portion of my oustanding balance once a week to spread it over the 30 day period. I have that flexibility with a credit card as oppose to a debit card. If it's a big purchase then I just do a balance transfer to another card that offers 0% for like 20 months or something and set up a direct debit to deal with that payment. That arranagement has worked fine for me for many years now. My primay reason for using credit cards is purely cashbacks and rewards, otherwise I would'nt need to use them much

Hi Sasha, thanks for pulling these videos together, the topic is extremely important and yet never taught. I'm still a little confused with the term "pay in full". Can I get some clarity on whether this means to pay the 'statement balance' in full (by direct debit for example) or to pay the current balance which often in my case is higher than the statement balance as I will spend throughout the billing cycle etc. Keep up the great work, thanks!

One thing that is still confusing for me regarding credit utilization is: If I have a limit of $10.000, then I go and get a part payment through a store for $10.000 (many stores here offer part payments only through credit cards). Say I then choose to part pay for 10 months, so $1000 each month, and with my bank at least, the rest is not shown. It comes as a charge every month, for 10 months. The first payment, I pay $2000, and when I read my limit on the card, it will say $11000, and my balance will say -$1000. I can still only charge another $1000 on my card, since the company knows that I have $9000 that is _going to be charged._ Does this mean I have 90% utilization, which is bad, or does it mean that I have -10% utilization?

The credit card statement is a monthly thing that tells you how much you owe and when it's due. But if you tell them to pay it off in full (by direct debit) every month then you don't have to worry about trying to time your repayment perfectly, the direct debit just pays it perfectly on the day it's due automatically. It submits monthly data to credit reference agencies - shows that you have a credit account that you do not miss payments on, do not go over the limit on and manage properly which are all positive signs. Hi, I've just been approved a credit card for £1500 but not sure whether to take the whole lot or reduce it. Point being is that if I take the whole lot, I definitely wont be spending 30% of that limit each month as I'm currently saving for a house. If I reduce it to £1000, then I'll more or less be using 30% of the card each month. Question here I guess is, is it better to get the higher limit but underutilise the card or lower the credit limit but get a better utilisation per month? Thanks, Jon
@SashaYanshin3 жыл бұрын
Hey Jon, On a £1,500 limit, I think you will be just fine personally - if you use it to pay for regular spend like food shopping, petrol, whatever else you normally use a card for every month, that should do it - you can also get a second cardholder account if you have a partner and they spend on a card too. Some utility providers allow payment by card although be careful not to set up a continuous payment authority if you don't want to do it. If you are planning to use it regularly and pay it off in full, I personally wouldn't worry too much on the exact % number - it's not like it is in the US where that is a very fixed factor. :)

@@SashaYanshin in my app I chose to pay in full on the 30th of every month is that good for building credit ?

Hypothetically speaking, if someone wanted to get a car loan for £22,000 in a years time, but his credit score was just 'good' at this right instant. What is the most strategic way for this person to increase his creditworthiness to ensure he gets a competitive interest on the loan. (This person is a banker and earns +40K a year and has recently(in October) applied for Paypal credit and got accepted). I do not want advice, but opinions - thanks :)

Hypothetically speaking without knowing anything about the person - if they have average credit, the two things to do are: a) Pay down any outstanding debt as much as possible starting with the highest interest debt first until it's all gone (not including mortgage) and b) use 1 or 2 credit cards to pay for all normal spend and repay them in full by direct debit at the end of each month. It pretty much is as simple as that. 👍

@@SashaYanshin This hypothetical person has no debt but recently applied for Paypal credit. Is it wise to apply for another credit card or should this hypothetical man wait slightly longer? Thanks for responding btw, I try and share your videos with my friends at university :)

@@huskmda1433 Thanks!! If somebody hypothetically made one full credit application in the last 3-6 months only, that shouldn't have any serious impact on eligibility for other credit products. Especially if that hypothetical person first checked eligibility on the usual Moneysupermarkets, Totally Moneys and the like which won't leave a footprint. I'd definitely use a credit card over PayPal too if I was wanting to build credit better and more quickly.

Hi there! I did not understand when we need to pay in full the credit card. I do not have any atm, will get one very soon..but for what I did understand is that we need to pay in full the credit card after the day that closes the statements but before the update on the bureaus? This is not very clear for me. Can someone help me with this?

@@SashaYanshin thank you Sasha! Will check it out! May I ask you one more question - what about tradelines. Why nobody is using those - in the US they use it to gain history and card age with high limits. I tried to contact more than 50 people, none of them was able to help me. What do you think about this and what’s the best way to build credit history so fast as the tradelines in the US? Thank you Sasha! 🙏🤝
@SashaYanshin3 жыл бұрын
@@mrvgrigoras Tradelines are dodgy as anything and there is a good reason they don't exist in the UK. Buying credit history is not good for anyone and shouldn't exist anywhere in any form in my opinion. The best way to build credit history in the UK is to get a credit card and do what I talk about in videos - use the card and repay it in full every month without fail. There aren't really any shortcuts here but your credit history can build a lot more quickly that you think just by starting to do that sooner rather than later.

That’s a great answer! Thank you so much for this and for your time buddy! 🤝 Keep posting this gems for the UK! 🙏🔥

Hey Sasha, when you set up a direct debit to clear the full amount, is this on your credit card account or current account? Also, does the direct debit adjust automatically to the amount spent (i.e. not like a gym membership £20 per month for example)?
@SashaYanshin3 жыл бұрын
You set up the direct debit with the credit card and they will then charge the bank account. The Direct Debit will automatically adjust - if you set it for the Full Amount, it will take the amount on your statement on the date when the DD comes out for example.
