How to Build HYDRO DAMS in Cities: Skylines 2

In this Cities: Skylines 2 video I will be showing you how to build hydroelectric power plants / dams.
So to start of I am going to run you through a few tips and things to keep in mind when building hydro dams in Cities Skylines 2.
Tip 1 is to be aware that the higher you build your dam the more power it is going to make/produce. This is because of the amount of distance the water has to fall to reach the bottom of the dam, therefor creating more of an impact on your dams turbines, creating more power.
Tip 2 is that the higher you build your dam, the more terrain editing you will need to do, to stop and prevent any overflows and floods. You need to make sure all the river walls/banks are the same height or higher than the dam itself.
Tip 3, you can't build your dam higher than your water source. If your dam is higher than your water source, then your dam will never fill up.
Tip 4, The faster your water flow, the more power your dam will produce, as again it will create more of an impact on your dams turbines. Its difficult to create a fast water flow, but what I have found helps is having a straight, thin, shallow and sloped river or water source, but having all of them will reduce the amount of water flowing to your dam, so you want to find a happy medium. To find out if you have a fast water flow, take a look at the water flow arrows, if the arrows are large, pink or purple then you have a strong, fast water flow, if the arrows are small, white or green then you have a slow, weak water flow.
Tip 5 is to make sure your dam is facing the right way. You want to have the little holes at the top of your dam to be where your water is coming from and storing up, and the two strips running down the centre of your dam need to be facing where your water is draining out. I've found that if you give your dam a curve then it will be placed facing the right way.
Tip 6, you need your terrain levels just before and after your dam to be deep, this is going to help fix or prevent any low water depth problems, but you want to make sure you don't lower it bellow sea level (thick white contour line) as you need to slope the terrain down to sea level on the outlet side, otherwise you'll end up with a pool of water in front of your dam, or the ocean coming up to your dam. If you have lowered your ground levels before and after your dam and your dam has fully filled up, but you are still having some low water depth problems then try lowering it just a little bit more, this should fix the problem.
Tip 7, use the terrain tools to fix any overflows or floods as soon as you see them, as this is going to slow your water flow speeds down and its water that is no longer going to your dam, therefor it will be producing less power.
So now I am going to build two hydro dams, one that is large, long, high and is more reliant on the distance the water has to fall, and another dam that is small, short, low and more reliant on a fast water flow speed. Out of the two dams the large one is going to make significantly more power than the small.
Now, I don't claim to be an expert on Hydro Dams on this game or in life, this is just everything I've learnt with my many years on Cities: Skylines 1, and what I have leaned so far on Cities: Skylines 2. Lowered the basin to just above sea level as you suggested, and boom, suddenly I'm getting 107% efficiency instead of a puny 3%. Thanks man, I always just thought Dams were bugged.

Exactly, the shape of the dam body is important and must be curved towards the reservoir otherwise over time cracks will begin to form in the structure and eventually it will collapse.

Very good explanation but for likelihood to real dams, the arch must be built in the opposite direction to counteract the water pressure.
