I pull from 2 worm setups and dice up worms for my 3-5" fish. Always funny to see a tiny fish come through and grab a big bit of worm and swim around the tank and being chased by all the other fish who also now want that specific worm. I have a large pot on my deck as the first worm bin - I make the bottom layer leaves and sticks and some wormy soil from prior season, and add food scraps and leaves to the top and fill it over the year. Following spring I use the soil to top or start new flower pots and start the bin again. In the garage I have a worm farm with 3 layered bins, a moisture basin and a lid - use it all year long.

Yeah my bins have gotten to the point where they need to be reset or I need to add a moisture bin layer

Right to the point and very informative video. Northern European worms is another good worm to cultivate for aquarium fish and composting. They seem to be more active and tolerant than RW. Freezer. Got mine also from Uncle Jims. Thank you

I just started keeping Red’s they are very easy to farm. I always thought it was a smelly thing. I noticed that if you lay a layer of paper on top they will be under it. Fish love these wigglers

yeah i was worried about the smell too, but i put some parsley scraps or some herb in one of the bins, and even a week later it still smells like fresh herbs, no rotting smell all all, the worms do great work!

Wouldn't filter floss be better than using fine screen? I would think filter floss would be better at keeping out mites and knats. but also still let air in. Like griddle worm cultures.
@gregjonesonline Жыл бұрын
Filter floss isn't woven, so there is no mesh size, which means larger animals can wiggle through

Can a bed for red wigglers be from newspapers?
@gregjonesonline Жыл бұрын
Probably? As long as it is semi damp, but you are what you eat, so give them something nutritious to eat

Are the red wiggler worms too big for cory catfish and angelfish?
@gregjonesonline Жыл бұрын
The baby worms may be small enough, but for Cory's I would do Whiteworms, blackworms, and frozen bloodworms

I keep a bunch but every winter I bring them inside and battle the dang fungus knats or what ever they are
@gregjonesonline Жыл бұрын
you could try sterilizing your substrate or starting with fresh substrate, but yeah, having multiple cultures allows you to nuke the bad ones and start over to stay ahead of the pest problems
@Yuhmuthasaho Жыл бұрын
@@gregjonesonline I’ve tried that in the past. But I get them from the house plants too so they intermingle. I’ve heard you can use diatomaceous earth on top but I’m skeptical
