@@reymartvvillanueva788 Larry Haun Was the greatest . I'm a licensed home building contractor who learned most of his skills from his videos . That was the first guy i ever saw that broke down each part of building into understandable parts anyone could follow and learn from. His videos' are still worlds better than most of the crap out there now and they originally came on vhs !!

@wind5250 I second that! Someone just needs to make a High Definition remastered version of Haun's "Stick Built" 1976 series. Otherwise, I still can see and understand what Larry shows in those videos. I'm sure FineHomeBuilding already has it remastered.

SO years ago, I worked on stage crews in London's West End. On the biggest show I ever worked, an opera, there was a crew of set-builders who'd worked round the clock for weeks to get the set up and ready on time. When these guys assembled anything out of timber, it was usually 3/4" ply cladding 2x2 framing, so everything was held together with 2" #8 screws. The screws went in - the whole way - with a hammer! No screw guns back then, and these guys were working as fast as they could. When a screw came back out, the guys used Stanley Yankee pump screwdrivers. From then on, any time I was using screws in softwood, I'd tack them in or drive them the whole way with a hammer. Ugly, but when you're in a hurry, it works.

Thank you for this. At first I was disoriented by the camera. It looked like everything was warped & I started to get motion sickness, but when it was more still it was easier to watch. I managed to focus enough to watch and I'm glad I did. You are very skilled with the saws and getting everything lined up so quickly. This is the first video of yours that I've seen. What was the size of that deck? Now I need to find where you do the railing. Do you have a link to that one? The hammering the screws in a bit to get them set is a great trick I'll have to try. I need to build a 5'x4' landing (I thought 4'x4' would work but using 3d planning tools showed it would be waay too small).

How do you like the flexvolt circular saw? How does it compare to a dewalt corded circular saw? I’m conflicted in my decision to buy the flexvolt. Anybody please leave your thoughts. I frame additions with a smaller crew and am considering buying this saw. How does it do cutting through LVL? And would two batteries carry me through a whole day of cutting in most cases? Thanks!

I'm making that video right now . Thanks for the questions. I'll be sure to answer them all in the video.

I have the Flexvolt saw as well. If you have power at the job site 2 batteries and 1 fast charger will never leave you stranded. I would say without power maybe 2-3 charged up batteries since you’re cutting LVLs and such. I mostly cut 3/4” Pine and cedar with mine.

You are using enough screws and nails to build 2 sets of stairs. Aren't you worried about water seeping in between the crack in the blocks? Why no gap between the top boards, it would help keep water off them and allow for expansion when they soak up water. No gap can equal screw and nail heads popping out. The more overhang you add the weaker the ends. Sometimes less is more. Otherwise good video, commentary and spirit. Liked the trick with the screws. Seeing you doing that in combination with using a long driver bit made it make sense for me, not so good when using short driver bits...

On my work there's this carpenter who says always put heart side towards sky (not in english) in wood boards and whatnot. Ever heard of it? You do it also?
@sirstickjcs6 жыл бұрын
I have always put the heart side down. That allows water to run off the boards.
@alealkomaholi6 жыл бұрын
@@sirstickjcs Huh ive been told heart side runs water off better. Also not so much in framing but the 2,2x10cm boards for drywall installation for example apparently over time the wood wants to straighten itself looking from the year rings so if the heart side is up sides of the board will suck in to the wall instead of curving out. so ive been told
