No matter where you put the tool near the lift, it will either be the wrong tool, in the way or out of reach. Same as when you are laying on a crawler under a vehicle. Really enjoy your videos, thanks for sharing.

I've refined this over the past 35+ years at the same shop. I keep my main box (hard tools) at the left front fender where it's only 1 or 2 steps max to the tool I need. Just left of that is the water separator/regulator/filter/oiler and manifold for my air hoses. Left of that is my storage cabinet (fast-moving parts, fluids, cleaners.) The workbench and bench vise are directly in front of the lift, to the right is the parts washer. My electrical cart (wiring supplies & tools, meters, scan tools, test lights, etc.) is level with the cars right front door, with room to park a roll cart comfortably (parts and other tools I'm using.) I'm lucky enough to have a room to myself with a lift and space to work on the right side.

Large toolbox against wall. You need smaller roll around for all high use tools ( wrenches ,sockets ,screwdrivers , pliers ,air or electric tools ,etc. ) So you have them right where you working . Nothing worse than walking back and forth grabbing tools.

Main box central location. High use tools in roll cart and a cheap parts cart to shuttle everything else. Works great to keep everything organized and handy without cluttering the area. I’d just flip the main box around to the same wall in new shop and get a good 6 drawer service cart.

@@bleepinjeep with a good 6 drawer service cart with your go to tool load out you can have everything near you, and I have a 24x36 plastic parts cart to stage parts and tools from the big box, drilled the little shelf out to hold my cordless impacts and wratchets. Keeps the big box clean and organized, but still keeps everything you need at hand and positioned to be accessible while your working.

Man, any used vehicle you buy, I now suggest checking all area's you might be welding. I welded a patch on my 97 Dodge extended cab (bottom, between the door and the rear of the cab). 6 months later I needed to take out the head liner which meant I needed to remove the interior side panels and found 3 223 cal. rounds. Had they been on the other side I'd been in for a bang.

Tool box or tool cart would depend on the job and how many jobs you got going at ounce. For me when I work in a shop doing R&R of drivetrain and powertrain I would be working on more than one vehicle, so in that instance the cart would be in the middle. And in most all cases I never just worked on on vehicle at a time. Most shops don't have a lift positioned like your and in most cases the main tool box would be a up towards the front of the lift were you face when you pull in. So as the way you have the Jeep now your permanent box would be in the back and your cart collects all the tools your using and would be were your parts pile isn't, of course moving it around as needed.

For the flag nuts, could you line them up on the outside, trace them with a sharpie, drill a whole or two where the cross piece will sit above, install and bolt in the flag nuts without the brackets and then plug weld the flag nut to the frame though the hole or holes drilled from the sharpie step. This should allow them to be permanently installed… right?
@bleepinjeep
@bleepinjeep Жыл бұрын
I think just using them as flag nuts is a whole lot easier that that. I did install nuts on the inside of the frame on the Comancheep project series and the scorpion series but those are welded to the top side of the stiffeners and then just get shoved up into a hole in the un

you missed step(s) on frame stiffeners IMHO- Hit the frame with weldable primer as well as the stiffener (if it is not already) If you want to really avoid rust issues..... After that temporary mount the stiffner then draw in you weld and bolt holes onto jeep. Remove stiffner and then do a thin rust sealant paint that does not allow for air or water to penetrate it...... (leave area around the drawn in holes you weld thru though areas). Could do same for interior of stiffner too. If you dont do this water will trap between stiffner and chassis and rot/rust the jeep chassis out and you will never know it till only the stiffeners are the remaining metal... welded thru the holes to former chassis metal which is by then just a chunk of rust...
