I like the design, very clean and simple but it seems to me that there may not be enough vertical support under the leading edge of the landing. Wouldn't a vertical 2 x 4, nailed or screwed on the inside to each of the horizontal side boards add more strength?

I would think so and don't be afraid to modify this design to make it stronger and safer.

Can this design be modified to be wider and to close the space between the steps so they appear more boxed in? Can these be attached to a 30 inch high deck? How would that be done?

Looks like just what I need. Are the side pieces 2" x6". For a lower rise per step I am considering 2'x4". Any suggestions. Thank you.

It can create smaller risers, but could work.

This stairs goes towards front direction. Is there any better way to extend the stairs to three directions which goes towards front, left, and right. Then no railing guards are needed.
