Wedge box for the win! Every time I consider building a wedge box this little guy pops up on my shoulder saying “It’s easier to just build it square bro!” Then my lazy little guy pops up on the other shoulder and says “He’s right man” 😂😂. Excellent video as always! I know a lot of people struggle to build these types of enclosures so it’s good for them to have a nice step by step video.

Thanks man! The angles definitely add some extra time, but not a big deal, that little angle finder cube is clutch but the sticking the board to the piece you already cut is my favorite table saw trick.

New follower here....I spent YEARS where I had A LOT of sound in a few old school cars I’ve owned. Trunk opening was no issue in a 92 Fleetwood, 83 Delta 88 nor with an 84 Cutlass Supreme 😆😂. I now own a Silverado 1500 and after adding 4 6x9s in the back doors, new head unit and an amp...that’s where I’ve stopped. I’d love to get back into it by switching to better amps as well as shallow mount subs. I’ve been planning on building my own sub box this time and your channel has sooooo much useful info! Glad to have come across your channel 😃

Like that design Mark and those details. Some people don’t get it. The little extras that you do on a build add up to more business for the installer. Common looks mean less for your bottom lines and less return business. Anyone can build a boring box. A little more effort will keep you busy and your pockets full. That’s the way it is. Don’t believe me, ask Mark! Stay safe mates!😊👍🏻😷

Great table saw, one of the top brands at least, but I picked up a track saw and I always suggest them now as a set with a less expensive table saw (think smaller more than less features). Once you master the track saw your table saw usage will drop significantly. In my opinion, more accurate, cleaner cuts, and a lot safer. It'll handle those angle cuts a lot more efficiently. I went cordless dewalt and invested in a larger track and can process a sheet in minutes where it would take at least an hour before. Just a FYI, great stuff as always!!!

Ever do a 08 up avenger, I would like to build a optimized enclosure for a single 12", I had 2x 15" kicker comps and solo's back in the late 90's the small amp on the comps did 142.7db, and sounded good, in a sealed enclosure, I'd like to get that and then some from a single 12, in a good enclosure, and tune a range of 25-30Hz to about 80-90Hz maybe 100Hz most likely a ported encounter, I always did sealed back in the day I'm thinking a just above entry-level sundown sub, if this was 20 years ago, I'd want to use the trunk for batteries and amps, put about 6x 18" subs in there! But now I wasn't a trunk, and back seat, I have thought about using a couple truck boxes, and shallow mount subs, something cheap, but if I'm going to do it , I want it to sound good, a pair of boss 12"s ain't gonna do it, I learned years ago, you would be better off with a good sub and the boss amp, (then get a better amp later!) I'm thinking a single 12" with about 600w should do fine, (maybe I'll add another 12 later!

Hi, Mark. Is there any way to fit the subwoofers on top of the rear tray/deck? I want to upgrade my system, but I don't want to sacrifice a lot of trunk space, so do you have a video that shows how to do that, or any advice on how to do it or why not to? My car happens to be this exact Jetta, so all of this series of yours can't possibly be any better or more suited for what I want to do. Thanks a lot!

I had a 88 Volkswagen Cabriolet a few years ago. I installed in all Boston acoustic speaker system. Six and half components in the doors, 5.25" coaxials in the back with 75 W per 4 channels. Also, two 12s in a sealed enclosure in the trunk with 150 W per channel. It sounded incredible! However, to get the enclosure in the trunk, I had to remove the back seat and put it in that way. The Cabriolet hatch was way too small to get it in that way. In the past, I've had my sub boxes stolen out of my cars. I figured with all the work to get the box in the car this time, they would never be able to steal the system. They stole the car! Guess the joke was on me.

I've not be into car audio in a decade but from what I remember I don't recall ever seeing a good ported box, maybe all my friends who had one used cheap options but they always came off as muddy and not very accurate. I've always felt sealed boxes while less bass tend to be more accurate with the bass, thinking about it now it's hard to put into words but the bass on ported boxes seemed to drag on a little after the bass note whereas sealed would hit the bass than move on to the next note.

Does it matter where the port is located as long as it's the right size? I had to cut the port off to get the box in my car. Now that I have a jeep. It Fits but the port is still cut off. Same size port, just not facing forward, it's on the side. Props on the JL audio subs, the rock! One more thing. Could I seal up the port? I prefer a more punchy bass for rock music. But the sub box won't have any separation between subs
@Des420
@Des420 3 жыл бұрын
The subs will function no matter where you put the port, but placement will effect how it sounds... Big time. Port up or back tend to be the loudest in most vehicles, but you can find other Jeep system videos and find out what seems to work best for them and apply it to yours. As for sealing up the port, that would depend on if the subs are designed to be played in a sealed box. If they are not, they you'll likely end up damaging something and not liking how it sounds until that happens. I'm sure Mark would agree that these are things you are technically supposed to have addressed in the planning stage of the system and not after you find out something doesn't fit. Good luck.
