Note: if your internal drive is SATA then it will also cap the transfer rates to ~650mb and under, regardless if you use USB or Thunderbolt. If you're in that situation and just looking for large reliable storage, then go for a SATA drive that has a large RAM cache and SLC layer - as that will determine the consistency of your transfer speeds and the long-term reliability of your external drive.

These are absolutely super. I discovered them last year. Had no idea you could hook up SSD's and even NVME sticks over USB. I've got them for both and while you can treat this like a cheaper alternative to just buying one. I use them to make use of older sticks when I've upgraded internally to larger ones. Its a great way to keep on using smaller drives.

Problem is negative reviews you see lots of people complaining that the thing fails quickly, lasted 1 month, lasted 2 months, lasted 5 months, overheats, errors, etc, I'm sticking with Samsung SSDs the failure rates on big brands are lower.

The video is 2 years old. The companies lowered their prices since then, guess cause no one was buying them. Except for the Samsung t7 and the crucial most trusted companies (SanDisk and Seagate has been loose on credibility) were over $155 which is the price of making one. And if u look at 4tb, it's a real money saver then. Cause those start at $360

now, if only there were a similar enclosure for the small graphics cards that go into laptops. my Dell is using Intel XE integrated graphics. I don't game, but I do program matrix inversions using the graphics processors. since I'm not playing games but programming the graphics card, I don't really care about the speed of the interface onto or off the graphics card so much as the amount of RAM on the graphics card (so I can hold a bigger matrix in the graphics memory) and the number of cuda cores on the graphics card (so I can apply more cores to inverting that big matrix in the graphics memory) if there were an enclosure that could house the sort of mini graphics cards that are used in laptops, I would think the thunderbolt 4 port that I have available would be sufficient to drive the card. is that possible? is there a small form factor enclosure for these small form factor graphics cards?
