great video, I agree with almost every one in the comments, an aluminum option for every plastic part on this engine would be great. maybe all the new aluminum pieces can come in a kit.

I have installed the oil cooler, the crossover and the thermostat housing. A huge improvement. . No more leaks. The worst thing abou the plastic oil cooler is what happened to me is that a technician at an oil change place cracked it when overtorqueing the filter cap. Human error and the first replacement cooler was also plastic. After it started leaking, 50k miles later I went to the Dorman option. My Chrysler 200S AWD is worked very hard and has autocrossed and done track days. I know I stressed these components, but since the Dorman changeovers. No issues. Thank goodness🥰

The engine cooler housing is not what’s failing, it’s the seals. There shouldn’t be seals but gasket instead. The plastic one works just fine and dealers know this. That’s why when you go in for warranty repair the dealer only replaces the seals. The seals fail due to rapid change in temperature during warmup in cold climates. Did you guys stress test in cold climates before you’ve come up with this solution? Call any shop in northern parts of North Dakota and ask them how many of these they replace in the winter.
@splat7147 Жыл бұрын
I agree with this. 125,000 miles on my 2015 and the plastic housing was fine. The rubber seals had flattened out completely and lost elasticity which caused the leak. All that was needed was a new seal kit, which can be bought separately from Mopar for less than $20.
@witdaMacksauce Жыл бұрын
Naw bro.. the aluminum on is wayyyy better and if you've got a lil bit of porting skills, port and smooth out all the burrs in it and the car runs happier. Though it is the steals too the plastic plugs crack. No part should be plastic with hot oil and coolant running through it

Yep, they should use a double metal gasket, that is “lipped” at the ports, much like what is used on an intake manifold, but you are 100% correct with your statement. I wish an engineer would design a gasket to use, instead of those cheap rubber seals.

@piezoman792 ай бұрын
This is honestly a fairly easy task as long as you have everything planned in advance and all the materials needed. Remember you will need to drain at least enough coolant that it’s not still flooding the intake cooling passages, and of course drain the oil prior to removing anything beyond the engine cover. Depending on your vehicle, it may or may not be possible to visually confirm that you do indeed have a leak coming from the engine valley, otherwise you’re kind of flying blind until you get a few pieces of the intake removed, which still requires going through all the advance steps as mentioned. But overall it’s not an overly difficult task. Be sure to protect your open ports so you’re not scraping or dropping crud where it doesn’t need to go.

You know some plastics are stronger than metal. The plastic on those engine do not wear out. The oil leak on the plastic oil cooler are not from the plastic body but the O-ring seals at the oil cooler. the seals not the oil cooler body.

DRY START..That’s what kills the valve train. After engine shut down all the oil returns back to the pan. When left for 1 hour and then restart.. there is no oil in the gallery. The engine starts and no oil for 3 seconds. Repeat this for 100,000 miles and no oil in lifters or push arms. Results in rocker bearing and pin wear in rocker arms then owner is on hook for premature change out of damaged cam, lifter, rocker arms. THANKS CHRYSLER FOR THE EXTRA COSTS OF OWNING HOUR PRODUCT.

@UPerformace9 ай бұрын
Baxter Performance solved the oil problem by adding a custom oil filter adapter with a check valve to stop about 1quart of oil from draining to the pan. That way valvetrain gets lubed instantly on startup. It also uses a typical oil filter from a 5.7l hemi I believe. Pretty neat but kind of expensive at $325-$385. Solves the expensive problem though.
