Would love to visit the Color Farm one day. I did not even know farms like these exist. Your videos starring this farm and the bundle dye result in this one are fantastic. Very meditative to watch...

Love this! So very informative and I love the way the bundle looks! Can you use parchment paper or wax paper as a barrier?
@MargaretByrdColorQuest3 жыл бұрын
Many thanks, Mary! Yes, you can use parchment paper - this is what I used in the video - but make sure it is white. I tried it with brown parchment and it discolored the textile. I'm not sure what the heat would do to wax paper, so I would stick to parchment 😊

Lovely video. Thanks for the video. Did u premordanted the cotton fabric used for this bundle project
@MargaretByrdColorQuest2 жыл бұрын
Many thanks! Yes, the cotton was pre-treated with aluminum acetate. I discuss the mordant process around minute 13:30 in the video and I have a process tutorial that I link to directly as well (Eco-print with summer flowers). Hope it helps!

Hey may I for long does the colour stay on the fabric?like any after care for these prints
@MargaretByrdColorQuest Жыл бұрын
Natural colors live and breathe and change over time, but if you properly prepare your fiber with a mordant, the print can last a long time. If you treat it gently by washing in cold water and air drying out of direct light, it should last even longer.

Heehee 💙 It was kinda fun while it lasted, but I did freak some people out 😊 I still have remnants on my nails, but it is growing out and fading fast. Soon it will be just a lovely memory! You too will have blue hands one day...I just know it 💙

such clear prints! i've never used barrier paper before. Did you mordant your cotton fabric? thanks for sharing your information
@MargaretByrdColorQuest3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Pen! The barrier paper is a great way to keep the print from reprinting on itself when you roll the textile. Basically, you just get the one print you design which helps make it more clear. Yes, I pretreated my cotton with aluminum acetate which I discuss around minute 13:10+ in the video. Check it out 😊

How do you preserve rose petals for bundle dye later on?
@MargaretByrdColorQuest Жыл бұрын
I have pressed fresh flowers in sheets of parchment paper in heavy books that I've used later for eco-printing. You could easily do this with rose petals 🥀

Is this Butter paper and barrier paper is same? Pls reply
@MargaretByrdColorQuest2 жыл бұрын
The barrier paper I use in this video is parchment paper which is used for baking. I would imagine butter paper would work too.
@nettra30803 жыл бұрын
Hi, what is the barrier sheet you've used here? Is it like a tracing sheet or butter lining sheet. Kindly do let me know
@MargaretByrdColorQuest3 жыл бұрын
Hi! I used parchment paper here, but make sure it is white. I used brown in the past and it also transferred its color to my textile. You could certainly use tracing paper or palette paper too.

Is alum acetate is safer to use.
@MargaretByrdColorQuest2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it is a compound salt that is considered natural and safe for the mordant process if it is handled properly. It is a very fine powder, so you should wear a mask when you measure it to avoid inhaling it. Once it is in liquid form, a mask it not necessary. If you have sensitive skin, you may want to wear gloves to handle the powder too, but I have never had a reaction to it.
