Gotta love how it was always "I" in the video while in reality it was Dad doing all of the work.

i work for dish network and im always seting up our dish's on metal pole mounts and having to dig trenches to burry the line. Ive came across a house before where the customer had ran his own piece of pvc conduit from the home to the existing pole that was there from a previous dish and it was soooooo easy, just tied the new cable onto the one that was inside the conduit and pulled it on through, simple as that. It offers so much more protection running it through pvc especially if you are using the regular black coax. We have to use the orange cable any time we have to burry it because they are a lot more durrable and made for being underground where the regular black cable is not made for it.

how long will black cable hold up under ground?

I would imagine that it would last quite a while being housed in the conduit like that.

That's for looking and the nice comment!

That's a good idea, but wouldn't a grounding block only ground the bottom element which is the ground and not the top where it would likely get struck?

was talking about a coax grounding block where you cut the coax and put on two weather tight connectors and attach them to the feed through block you can get them at Radio Shack

Nice job Buddy! Why is the antenna so far from the house?

I ran about 80 feet of DXE-400max in 1/2 inch PVC conduit to an autotuner at the feed point of an OCF antenna using a very similar technique. I watered the grass every day and after 2 weeks I could not see where the trench was dug. --de N3TPS

Now I like that mason jar idea!!

Right now it's being used for cb but I may soon be putting a different antenna up there which will be used for HAM

Thanks Mick, but fortunately we just got a lot of rain

Not to be a know it all but a lightning arrester is the best protection it will send the center to ground if hit also the bleed static to ground look at ham radio companys to get the best stuff when I'm not using my equipment keep coax stuck in a mason jar sounds funny but I have seen a jar burnt black and it saved his radio room

I know but this is a dipole antenna with the hot line connected to the top element where it will get struck. The ground portion where a ground block grounds does not ground the center conductor
@speedy7560212 жыл бұрын
you should get a grounding block for the coax and sink a ground rod at the pole and connect the block to rod with # 8 bare copper wire to protect against lightening strikes

That's a very good question! Part of the reason is we had enough coax to do it, and the rest...i cant remember LOL
@hamradiocq8 жыл бұрын
I think the mower would cut over the coax....might as well give it a try. Just kidding, great video. Thanks for sharing.

if you bury a couple of coins along with the condut it will make it easyer to find the conduit later should you have problems later via a metal detector
@outdoorsman31012 жыл бұрын
thats the sturdiest antenna ive ever seen!! you have to water that until it gets set up
@rdmanone12 жыл бұрын
Good job man. But don't want to wait until it rains to water the grass. See ya. Mick.
