I recently bought a Homedepot rental 6x8 utility trailer. These are Anderson trailers, they are heavy duty and well made, top of the line. Phenomenal purchase and at a price point lower then one of those 12" tire trailers. The trailer itself is fully functioning, yes it has wear on it but it is in fantastic shape. It came with a spare and many details not found on many trailers, like heavy duty hinged tie down shackles in all 4 corners.

Wow !!!! I'm actually kind of shocked and impressed that a video about buying Home Depot Utility Trailer has almost a half million views in just over a year !!! Yeah, how I crossed paths with this video is this... I'm about to do a move from Chicago-land to Casper, Wyoming !!! and I was checking Uhaul basic trailers and the prices just floored me !!! about $300 for a one way trip !!! I would rather make 2-3 trips via minivan before I pay that much just to move some storage bins... so, thus, me looking for other possibilities..... yeah, I think they determine the price / cost from the zipcode.... I know storage units use that method of pricing.... yeah, makes me want to move to Wyoming even more !!! I'm done with all this nickel and diming to death.... rents are like $1300 per month plus utilities !!! annnd for parking !!!! yeah, I'm paying $50 a month just to park my vehicle... when it should be freakin FREE !!!! yep, I'm wayyyy over due for me to get the F out of here !!! Take care everyone !!!! Oscar

Nice trailer. Though you should apply some Anti-Seize to the threaded tail gate latches as well as any other commonly used threaded nuts. You didn't mention it, but the white caped piece-of-pipe on the right side of the trailer tongue A-frame is were you should store the trailer registration card to show ownership, cops will ask some times. It's also best to keep a copy of trailer registry with the primary tow vehicle as a back-up.

I had my 20 year old sure trac trailer repainted last year. It’s a 5 by 8 flat bed originally sold at Home Depot. I added sides. I took it apart, had it sand blasted and re-powder coated purple. All I need now is new tires. I did look at one of the Home Depot trailers in my area to buy. It sold rather quickly. You can buy those tailgate springs thru Sure Trac. They use those on some of their newer trailers.

@@deltabravo1257 The Sure Trac trailer that has the spring loaded tail gate is just a few years old. It has a piece made for the pins on the tailgate to drop down into a slot. There is a spring on each side of the gate. It makes the tailgate a breeze to pick up. I take it off sometimes when I haul something long. Just pull a coupIe of hitch pins out and it lifts right off. I have also added wood sides by using 2 by 10’s. I also added about 15 tie downs inside and outside the trailer. It’s premium made trailer, but the extras made into make it worth the price. I do check Home Depot site for them selling off their trailers. Look at SureTrac.com site for a visual on how the ends are made. My newer one is a 5 by 10.

Thanks for sharing. Either style axle at a given load rating will carry the same load. If your trailer "carries double of what mine can" it must be a tandem axle trailer. Small trailer trailers such as this almost always have a 3500lb axle. Their weight rating (GVWR) is limited to 2990 so the trailer manufacturer can avoid putting trailer brakes on them.

Right about 11:55 in the video you can see the sticker showing the GVWR at 2,999 and the GAWR at 3,500. 1,750 is half the GAWR and if I was renting equipment to the general public, I would tell them the limit was much lower than it actually is too. Most don’t know how to drive with a trailer, let alone load one correctly. Everyone on the road will be a little safer and I’ll spent a lot less time repairing equipment and in court.

It needed work but so far I got about 500 ish into it but still made out on what trailers go for. A lot of what I put into it was not needed, just upgrades. It was probably well over 2000 new. The trailer is built somewhat similar to the older UHaul trailers ,I wouldn’t be too surprised if they were either designed or built by the same people I will say Torsion axles are better than leaf spring for a smoother ride but it’s not really relevant for cargo and utility trailers because of their type of contents that are hauled with them sure hauling small trailers with leaf springs without a load will get noisy and airborne at times but that doesn’t really matter much I’ve had many small boat trailers that made lots of noise empty but it didn’t hurt anything , besides I pull them in my 3500 Dually Diesel pick up that is bouncy and noisy on its own a lot of times the trailers spitting grease out of the hubs is because they were overgreased very common if trailers have Bearing Buddies when that grease gets hot it expands and i’ve seen that blow the Bearing caps or Buddies clean off the trailer on highways because it is spinning so many RPMs higher than the tire it will hit the pavement and shoot in front of the tow vehicle

You've got that backwards. The tread on the tire is experiencing a LOT more speed than the bearings because the bearings are close to the point of rotation, where the tire tread is far out there and moving much faster for every turn of the wheel.

I've always wanted to buy a similar one from the U Haul fleet. They have some extra features for hauling motorcycles in theirs, like a bump-out in the front wall for the front wheel. And a corrugated floor that helps keep the bike form sliding from side to side. But they claim they never sell them, just scrap them when they're too old. They say they're worried that the next owner might come back at them with liability issues. I've also heard that's why you can't buy used UPS trucks as well. They'd rather scrap them than than take the risk of selling them.

I hate when people with trailers like that load up with yard waste or other things and then go traveling down the road, blithely leaving a trail of crap and sometimes dinged paint jobs and windshields behind them. I lost a brand new trailer tire on my enclosed trailer to someone who had a pile of junk in the back of their trailer, headed down the road to the dump, and lost some kind of chrome handle like you'd find on an office supplies cabinet but with a long shaft sticking out. I missed hitting with my Jeep but it went right through my trailer tire. Cost me half a day and $150 to get another one.
