When I purchased my car, I did not need a hanko and I paid in cash, so there was no bank transfer involved. It's advisable to check with the seller in advance, as the process may differ if you are buying a new car directly from the factory rather than a second-hand vehicle. Cheers

Ahoy! Awesome that you're coming to Japan! I recommend buying a car if you travel a lot and live or travel outside the big cities. It's very hard and expensive to get parking in, for example, Tokyo or Osaka, or any other big cities. 🏙 In general, public transportation is amazing in Japan. In Okinawa, you do need a car because there is very limited public transportation. 🚄 Generally, it's easy to sell your used car, and you can make much more money if you sell it privately. If you're in a rush, you can also sell it on a platform like this: kaitori.carsensor.net/ (but be aware the cars sell very cheap there). That's a great question! I was curious about that as well. From my understanding, you need to be registered at an address in Japan to obtain the necessary documents for purchasing a car. Once you are registered at the property you own in Japan, you should be able to acquire this document from your local city hall. To ensure everything is in order, I recommend visiting the city hall to explain your situation before buying a car from either a dealer or a private seller. It's always best to stay on the safe side when dealing with authorities in Japan, as I've heard some stories where things didn't go as planned. Cheers

Does an International Driver's License work the same?

Ahoy! Yeah, an International Driving Permit (IDP) works the same, but keep in mind the expiration date and also that it's issued under the right Geneva Convention from 1949. I once had a permit, but it wasn't issued under the same Convention, so I couldn't join the Mario Go-Kart experience in Tokyo. Haha 😆 Cheers.
