I watched your video before taking a bus from NJ to the Port Authority to visit my daughter in Brooklyn via the subway system. Your directions on how to get a Metrocard were concise and very helpful, making my trip stress free. Thanks for this service!

Apparently this was similar to our fare turnstiles here in Chicago with the CTA 😕😕😕😕😕😕. Apparently it was during the 80s and early 90s they had them. By the time I returned back to Chicago we had the one that you inserted it and it returned it to you.

Could you use the MetroCard for the New York Rapid Transit (Class B) challenge? One problem would be Staten Island which (so I understand) requires a round trip on the ferry. Would your MetroCard cover that

Thank you! Hope your channel grows! Helpful videos. I have a question. Is there a sign or announcement of which doors (side, right or left) will open? I suppose it depends on the station and may not even be the same side every time. Here in São Paulo it depends on the station, so that's why I'm asking! Specially helpful to know when it's rush hour, so you one can be at the correct side to get off.
@nonstopnewyork50547 жыл бұрын
Great question. You're right that the side changes depending on the station. Unfortunately there's no announcement. That would be helpful during rush hour, but I've never had an issue not being able to get off. As you pull into the station it's usually obvious which side the doors will open on because there will only be a platform on one side.

I want to move to NYC when I’m older but now I fear I might not like it due to transportation issues So I have a question: can I not just jump over the card scanner thing? I mean I don’t see any cops and even if a camera spots me I’ll be long gone on the train, so why not save a few bucks and do a 3ft jump over it for free?
@nonstopnewyork50546 жыл бұрын
I see people do that all the time, especially on buses, but if you get caught, you can get an expensive ticket.

Question: how do you know which platform to be on in the nyc mta and if your on the wrong one how do you switch? It confuses me every time I come into the city. How do you know which direction the train is going like north? I’m not familiar with the location of the streets
@nonstopnewyork50546 жыл бұрын
Hey Kevin, Great question. There are usually platforms specifically for uptown and downtown. Signs on the platform above the track will show you which one you're on. A few stations will have separate platforms for express and local with trains going a different way on each side of the platform. Just look for the sign above the track that the train is on to be sure.

Hi from Spain. Thank you for all your videos!!!. I have a metro card that I bought last summer. I´d like to ask you how much do I have to refill because this summer my family and I (we are 4) will visit N.Y. again. We will have to move from LGA to 57 Street (closest to my hotel). And the day we leave it will be from 57 Street to EWR. Thank you.
@nonstopnewyork50546 жыл бұрын
Each ride on NYC public transit is $2.75. I'm not sure where on 57th st your hotel is, but if you can get there on just one fare, it's $2.75 per person. Taking public transportation to EWR is more complicated because you have to transfer between different train systems. The Newark Airport Express bus might be easier if you're leaving at time when traffic isn't bad.

To Non-Stop: Question: In this COVID era, how do I transfer a balance from my MetroCard of yesterday's expiration, when the booth clerk said she cannot do it due to the pandemic?
@davidthaler70184 жыл бұрын
The MTA website has inconsistent information. One place says you have to have a station agent do it, another says you can use a vending machine. In both cases, the card has to be within 1 year after its expiration.
@ImANoob_RBLX2 жыл бұрын
Use the metro card machine and select refill card. then insert your card and it will ask you if you want to transfer the balance to a new card. however if it is past 1 year of the expiration date it does not work

Quick question, if I have a family of 4 what is the best way or suggestion to buy a ticket.
@ImANoob_RBLX2 жыл бұрын
get a regular metrocard with at least $33 in it. I suggest adding more money since $33 can only get you 3 trips if you are riding as a family every single trip. dont get an unlimited because otherwise you can not share the card

How do I get a 7 day on a refillable card? I visit often but at short clips that make the unlimited helpful but don't want to buy a new card each time and there is no agent at the airport to walk me through or roll their eyes at me. Station agent said I got the wrong type of card last time and reluctantly swapped it for me. Halp!
@ImANoob_RBLX2 жыл бұрын
just refill your metrocard with time using the metro card machine

Are there concessions on NYC Metro like we have on the London undergrounds? Here, kids up to age 10 can travel without tickets as long as they are accompanied by adults. Would something like this apply for NYC metro?
@nonstopnewyork50545 жыл бұрын
Larger stations have newsstands that sell snacks, and it's not uncommon to see independent vendors walk through train cars selling cookies and candy. Up to 3 children under 44 inches tall can ride free with a paying adult.

@nonstopnewyork50546 жыл бұрын
I've only seen credit card MetroCard machines in Laguardia, but you used to be able to purchase MetroCards at the Hudson News stands in cash. I haven't checked on this in a while though so not sure if that's still the case or not.

I have a question! I was in New York about 2 years ago and bought a MetroCard. I used it, but brought it home to the UK as it still had some money on it... do you think it will still work when I come back next year or does it expire after a certain time? Thanks!
@nonstopnewyork50546 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, I think it will be expired. MetroCards have expiration dates on the back you can check to make sure.
@cazzablanca6 жыл бұрын
Of course they do! I forgot about that - it's just been stashed in my travel wallet so didn't think to check! Thanks for your reply thought :-D

@nonstopnewyork50546 жыл бұрын
Children under 44 inches tall ride for free. If they are older/taller you can share a MetroCard. You would just swipe three times and the turnstile will let three people through. This will only work with a pay-per-ride MetroCard though. If you want an unlimited ride MetroCard, each person will need their own.
