Hello. I think this is a great video! I live in Japan and working for vintage car shop. I just found this video while searching a cheaper way to export Japanese cars to US for my friend. To find cars like you're looking for in Japan, absolutely this is the easiest and one of the best way on internet. If you looking for more cars or cheaper parking space,,,I think I could help!(there's a auction site only dealers can login)

Actually can’t believe how expensive these cars have become it’s ridiculous considering how cheap could pick them up 10 years ago , I picked up a captive blue Honda Civic EG6 -SiR year 1995 with 100,000 km on the clock back in 2010 for €3500 now to buy the same car in Japan there going for up to 18k to 20K it’s insanely overpriced now
@2JZAddict3 жыл бұрын
Truth! Prices in Japan have gone off the rails. I love my R33 and would totally buy it again but not for the prices they’re commanding right now. Back in ‘16/17 they were ~$20k which is appropriate. $60k + shipping and import for one now is just baffling. Little bit higher and we’re getting into used Lambo territory. It’s nuts!

Good Content. Just a comment /hack on the parking space requirement to register the car in another person's name. When you apply for the parking permit for another car, just tell the police station parking inspection that you sold the other car that was registered to that space. My friend had 7 cars registered to one space. And you can then rent a parking space for all your cars after you register the next one, and the next one. The first space has to be within 2 KM of your registered home address. Pretty funny that the police handle the parking space permits. Police are generally quite kind in Japan and there is no stigma attached to going to the police station. Heck, even people that sell "used cars" as a business have to register their business at the police station. They just earn "revenue" in different methods here.

Since the market for some post-1996 cars are reasonable at the moment, I wanted to know if it would be cheaper to fly out to Tokyo, purchase a car through the auction, have the car refreshed/fixed where necessary and store it there until the 25 year rule kicks in and have it shipped? Or even if the car is 25 years old already, would it be cheaper and better to go out there and buy the car and arrange shipping out there instead of online? Thanks for the great video btw!

I ALWAYS recommend checking a car out in person if you can. I bought the GTR in the middle of covid last year and they weren’t letting anybody into the country that wasn’t a citizen else I’d have flown out there. As far as export, shipping, and everything else, I’d recommend working with an exporter unless you’re well versed in the export process yourself. Sorry for the delay. I didn’t see your comment come through. It could be more affordable depending on who your exporter is in Japan. Mine worked out to be about $3k cheaper than if I were to buy the same car already state side. As far as financing, the only way I’ve found to finance a car overseas is if you’re active duty military with orders to that country. If you have orders they’ll accept a foreign title. If not, the bank will want the title within 30 days which means you’d need to pay cash up front and finance the car with an auto equity loan after it’s arrived and titled.

@2JZAddict3 жыл бұрын
You’re going to have to wait until 2024. Just because a certain model was sold in both countries doesn’t mean that emissions and safety standards are the same in both places. Consequently, unless you’re able to prove eligibility for a Show & Display exception you’ll have to wait until it’s exempt under the 25 year law.

Agreed. Lol One of many reasons I don’t live there. That’s not a CA law though, that’s a federal one. The additional stuff you guys have to do out there to be able to smog the car even though its EPA/NHTSA exempt is absurd.

Maybe I missed it, but what are the possible ways to finance a car from goonet? My bf tried to get a loan from the bank, and they said no because the dealer is out of the country, so i’m on youtube and sites trying to see how to finance :/ are there different ways to go about financing a car in japan?
@2JZAddict3 жыл бұрын
This will be a bit of a long explanation… Short version: you can’t finance the car in the traditional sense that you’re probably used to. When you finance a car state side the bank will want a title within 30 days of paying for the car. Since it’ll take 60-90 days to export, ship, and import the car they’re not going to do the deal. HOWEVER: If you secure a personal loan (at a much higher interest rate) for the total price of the car you can pay for it, get it here, get it titled, and then get something called an auto equity loan (at a lower rate) to payoff the high rate personal loan. If you do all those steps you have successfully financed and imported a car from another country. Alternatively he could enlist in the Air Force or Marine Corps. Once he gets stationed in Japan a bank will finance a car but he must have PCS orders to Japan.

Did you find an importer in Colorado or the state you picked your car up at?
@2JZAddict2 жыл бұрын
I went through Spencer to help facilitate the import process. He took care of all the unloading payments, duty, port usage fees, etc all under one umbrella. He lives in SC and so that’s the port I selected for pickup. There are some that are closer to CO but I know, like, and trust Spencer so it was an easy decision. I’m sure he could knock out the paperwork for you if you’d like to pick your car up at another location.

where do i go if i want to buy like a broken one and fix it up? or would it be cheaper going through this?
@2JZAddict3 жыл бұрын
Great question. The best place to find a broken one is either auction or private sale. The only caveat is that you’d then have to load it into a container which gets a little more complicated. I’m sure there are companies that specialize in that kind of stuff if you look around a bit.
@racerali21163 жыл бұрын
Do u need to do the whole inspection and port stuff if u get it from goonet?
@2JZAddict3 жыл бұрын
Goonet is like autotrader in the US. Any inspections posted are typically auction sheets from the individual dealers. If you can’t fly out there yourself to inspect the car, I’d recommend paying somebody **that you trust** to inspect the vehicle for you. I’ve seen lots of cars roll through auction that had substantial rust and were still graded 3.5 or 4. 😬 Given the amount of money you’re spending, $400+ is nothing when it comes to spending it right. Personally I’d rather drop $400 on an inspection and NOT buy the car than trust the auction sheet and have an expensive rust bucket. Hopefully that made sense. Feel free to hit me up with any other questions. 🍻👍

If you work with an exporter you’ll be fine. If you find one at a dealership that will only sell to a Japanese person, you’ll need to go through the same process I did and have an exporter that you trust facilitate the transaction. It’s not a UK vs US thing, some dealerships just don’t want to see the car leave the country at all.

How do I convert the price of the cars into US dollars (for example the 1850.0)
@2JZAddict3 жыл бұрын
Best way is to divide by 100. It’s not exact but it’ll get you in the ballpark. If you have a car priced at ¥18,500,000 then it’s appx $18,500 in USD (closer to $17,800 but you get the idea).
@a1topdog3 жыл бұрын
Your example is way out. Using your rate to divide by 100 to get usd, 18,500,000 yen would be 185,000 USD, not 18,500

Do you know how to import cars from Japan to colombia?
@2JZAddict3 жыл бұрын
The process is similar but a lot more strict. In Colombia the car has to be a current factory new production vehicle for permanent importation. The only exceptions are for diplomats, temporary importation, vehicles 35+ years old (imported as vintage), of vehicles 50+ years old (imported as classic). In order to bring in a 35 year old vehicle as vintage, it must be completely stock. Prior to importation you must obtain an import license from the local government and a certificate from the Colombian Automobile club for the specific car to be imported. After those criteria are met it’s just a matter of paying for everything.

That would be a question for Winmans. If they export you’d be fine. If they sell to an exporter you’d be fine. If they only sell to Japanese citizens then you’ll need somebody you trust facilitate the transaction, verify parking, complete JCI, and export the car for you.

@2JZAddict3 жыл бұрын
That’s always a tough one. Spencer is a personal friend of mine and I trust that dude 100%. He and Doston have worked together before and he trusts Doston. Because of my relationship with Spencer, it made it really easy to have Garage Defend help with the inspection and export process. If you don’t have anybody that you know personally with a connection to Japan, it’s a bit of a gamble. My suggestion would be to start with someone that has a great reputation, talk with them and see how you like their process. If something feels off, don’t worry about finding someone else. You could also find 2-3 to inspect the same car and see who does a better job. The best inspection gets the remainder of your business.

Your best bet is to look at an importer. As long as you go through one that’s legit you won’t have to worry about any title issues. I’d look at Craftsports in FL or Top Rank in Cali. Regardless of where you get the car, make sure it comes with the import documents. The last thing you want to do is be left holding the bag for someone’s “state titled” car.
