A dumpster to haul them away? WHAT? you just said you live in country with plenty of acreage!!! they way you talk you have plenty of room and a month or so of "trash books" sounds like one helluva bonfire to me! wtf would you pay extra to have them hauled away when you can have fun burning them and throw the resulting ash in a single kitchen sized garbage bag!? Oi... just got to the part where yousay "books burn for a loooong time".... I am not sure what exactly the downside of that is!!!!!!

I know a couple liquidation places that sell books in gaylords, but they would be all returns/shelf pulls. I've thought about getting into this. I really regret selling my 36' gooseneck enclosed trailer.. LOL The other downside with renting a truck is you have to get all the pallets off the truck by the next day. This is bad for guys like me in NC where it rains pretty much daily.. or pay a fee to keep the truck longer. Something like this is also bad for those of us with physical limitations. Although books might not be the best thing for disabled people LOL. I've thought about setting up a flea market stall for books that aren't worth selling online and are too good to trash. Just off them at $1 each. People LOVE buying stuff at a buck a piece. The last time I saw someone doing this at a swap meet I bought up a half dozen books for my own personal use. There are far easier ways to make a buck online, and that is why I'm betting less than 10 of the 10k people who have viewed this video will actually commit to buying pallets every single week, let alone 6 at a time.

I do remember asking the goodwill outlet manager that very question and she said it was roughly a 50/50 mix. They get so many books at the normal stores that they often just divert them to the outlet.

Some places won't sell to us online sellers because they have their own Amazon stores that they sell on. However, I would suggest asking around at thrift stores because some times they will let you buy crates or boxes at a discounted rate as long as you buy a minimum large amount.

These book wholesalers like Goodwill deal with a lot of people just trying to buy one pallet who are just hobby resellers. They need serious people who will buy at least 6. You have to show them the cash, and tell them you are not fucking around.

Did your U-Haul have a liftgate? Or did you rent a forklift to get them off?
@nickwoo1
@nickwoo1 5 жыл бұрын
The U-Haul’s do not come with liftgates, however there are other truck companies that do have lift gates. I actually went on craigslist and bought a used pallet jack and then I would roll the pallets down the ramp of the U-Haul. It was a pretty sketchy set up and definitely risky because the pallets wanted to fall off the ramp the entire time.

I’m considering buying a Gaylord but for some reason I think it’s pointless. Cost of renting a truck. You’re gambling on sellable items. Then you’re stuck with the majority of books and the cost of disposal. Although I know it can vary, I’ve heard 20-30 is the average of profitable books. I feel it’s not enough with all the work that goes into it.
@jeromewright9313
@jeromewright9313 5 жыл бұрын
yea I thought that too. I think a lot of it depends on where you buy the books to.
@nickwoo1
@nickwoo1 5 жыл бұрын
You’re absolutely right, it’s definitely a gamble to a degree. While I’ve been able to pick up gaylords of unscanned books, one of my friends in Texas bought 6 Gaylords that were filled with garbage (literal garbage bags, trash) in the lower half of the boxes. He did end up just barely breaking even with the books he found, but it was not a good time for him. In my experience, I average 60-70 profitable books per Gaylord box. My worst box was 25 books that basically paid for that particular Gaylord box. On average, I’ve spent $650 on the gaylords/truck/fuel, but I’ve walked away with $2200 in net profit after all fees, overhead, etc.
@billmartlink
@billmartlink 5 жыл бұрын
When you have to rent a truck, it is hard to justify buying only one gaylord. Between cost of truck, gas, mileage, and time, the cost of your gaylord can rise by 2-5x. You're almost forced into buying as many as you can that will fill the truck. Definitely a Catch-22
@nickwoo1
@nickwoo1 5 жыл бұрын
Bill Martlink True! The only thing that saved me when I went to buy is that my supplier required that I buy 6 gaylords per trip. Because of that, I came out with some solid profit after all overhead was accounted for.

Udemy controls the prices and runs sales every other week or so. If you put the course in your watch list, you’ll get an email in a week or so when it goes back to $15. They run these random flash sales. I’m not really sure of their process or why they do that, but unfortunately it is how they operate.
