William you just made my day, week, month and we'll see how 2020 goes but you may have made my year! That's so kind to say. I'll continue making these videos. In about 2-3 weeks we should have little lambs and that will be exciting! Again I can't say enough how wonderful it is to hear you enjoyed this video!

Thanks for sharing. I love farming. Grew up in NC every summer. I cried when they had to take my animal friends away. You have a serious job... Keep on Growing.

That sounds awesome growing up with animals. I know I could have benefited from the experience. I feel like I'm flying blind at times.

Thanks for this. Probably one of the most straightforward and helpful videos I’ve come across as I’m researching getting sheep myself. We are looking into Dorpers too. Is there another breed you’re interested in trying/adding? Do you have to worry about predators where you are? If so how do you address that? Ps. Love your outro graphic.

Thanks for all the kinds words James! I'm pretty new into sheep but I can day the Katahins have caught my eye (another hair sheep). They are getting popular. I'm interested in a Dorper /Katahin cross. Predators are slim here. You can't tell really well but I'm in a pretty suburban place. Just so happens that my lot of residential agriculture, which allows me to keep sheep. So I'm not too concerned with predators right now.

Great information & how did you research prices for your flock? My brother and I are trying to start a flocks, but no one shares prices.
@homesteadingwithPJ3 жыл бұрын
Just start calling and asking. I've seen trios (2 ewes and a ram) start at $1,500 and go up to $3,500. That's what you should expect for full blood Dorper, I cannot speak to pure bred prices. I paid $2,000 for my starting trio and my ewes came bred from a different ram than the one they came with.

can you share the how you found breeders focused on pasture raised stock? I don't want to feed grain.
@homesteadingwithPJ2 жыл бұрын
It a lot of calling and asking. Better yet is visiting the people and animals before you purchase them. Find people who do it the way you do. Join a Facebook group dedicated to the breed you want and start asking/networking. See if there's a breeder's group website with a listing of folks you can contact.

He was a good ram for the time. If anything he taught me the importance of respecting rams. If there's anything I've learned it's to make the ram a little afraid of you.
