Two tips for newbies; Try to spread your investments locally and internationally, Remember that the market is a zero sum game. I own some long-term hold real estate currently, which has done pretty well. But as a result of focusing on just real estate, I barely know anything about the stock market. I love real estate, but it takes a larger amount of capital and work, and like you mentioned, is not as easy to liquefy. I think it's important to diversify your investment strategy, that way you can continue to have an investment strategy regardless of economic periods and life circumstances. I love how straightforward and clear you presented everything. It really made me understand the basics. Appreciate this video! :)

One thought about investing, is where you are in life and do you have the time to recover on any downturn, as well as what kinds of stocks you put in your portfolio. Someone in their 20's will have a greater period of time to recover and can put a percentage of their portfolio in higher growth stocks like Amazon & Google, where as a retired person would have a harder time recovering so best to stick with utilities, banks, telcos & consumer staples that pay a regular dividend. I the event of a downturn, these stocks would be less likely to drop as much since the investor can still receive steady dividends for daily expenses.
