Depends. If you went on the high rate of the label, meaning 1lbs N per 1000 sq ft. Ie. If you applied a 10.10.10 at 10lbs per 1000 sq ft you’d have put down 1lbs n per 1000 sq ft which will last about 8 weeks on average. If you went at a half dose you’re at 1/2lbs per 1000 sq ft. When seeding I prefer 1/4 to 1/8th dose every two weeks

@pestandlawnginja3 жыл бұрын
faster response through the plant when you spray. the granular travels from the roots through the plant. I recommend people granulate fertilizer when they have lots of debris or the plant is in stress. In either case I always spray the micronutrients

I put in a new lawn last summer 100% bluegrass and having issues ever since. Can't seem to get nitrogen level to come up. 2 tests 1 in May 1 in July and the level stayed at 1.61 but P & K rose. Also have burn spots everywhere spreading. I know it's some kind of fungus so used azoxy, propiconazole, and clearys. I want to smoke this off and do rye grass instead, when can I do this knowing a fungus is present but treated. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Oh I'm using protene fertilizer which has urea, I bring that up because of your video on pro pete a couple weeks ago
@pestandlawnginja3 жыл бұрын
hard to say Terry. I love bluegrass. i have bluegrass in my back yard. what I can say is the rye reacts faster to treatments. as for raising your N levels. that is and will always be a tricky thing to do and I don't think you should worry about changing the soil. N is the primary nutrient and causes growth. but your knowledge of the levels will help you figure out a plan on how to properly feed the grass. In your instance i would put small amounts or medium amounts down every two weeks. I wouldn't do in excess of more than .25lbs of N per 1000 sq ft. this will spoon feed the grass. I don't recommend doing more than 4 - 5lbs N per season per 1000 sq ft. can you do more..... yes. but you risk burning the lawn. the lawn will allow about 1lbs N per 1000 sq ft per month or every 6 weeks. however you may leach a lot of those nutrients through the soil. but again, the focus is on what the plants needs when it comes to N, not fixing the soil. Hope that helps.

@pestandlawnginja3 жыл бұрын
its best to go old school. for .5lbs of N you'll want 14lbs of product per 1000 sq ft. for .25lbs N you'll want 7lbs of N. I shoot for 4lbs of N per season between March and october. as for the setting on your spreader I would measure out 1000 sq ft of grass and measure out the appropriate amount of fertilizer and test it out.

Congratulations on passing 100k. I subscribed when you had a couple of K's and you always delivered great quality content. I'll be ordering 2 kits one for my front other for my back. Is there a way we can reach you if we have more indept questions about results? Would you work on fixing soil if the readings are way off before doing a complete reno? Anyway Brother Ginja keep slaying lawns.

Thank you! It's been a journey for sure. Facebook messenger is best to reach me. i get to those messages in my spare time. I personally don't worry about "fixing" the soil. I do put down significanly more K on my lawn and avoid P as a result of the tests. the plant will always tell you what it needs.

Great video, I live in the north part of Ga. (My plan is to over seed in September.) I do about 75% of weeds mix with different type of grass I don't won't. My plan for August with in the next couple days or so to kill a lot of weeds and wild grass. I'm planning on experimenting with tenacity and speed zone mixed together to kill off a lot of the weeds and wild grass. My question is do you recommend killing off the weeds first before you put down the fertilizer because you're going to have the weeds and the grass growing at a high rate especially when you're overseeing? Thanks (Your lawn looks great, it can be shown at the Masters in Augusta 👍👍)

I put the herbicide and the fertilizer down at the same time to encourage growth even through the weeds. helps pull the herbicide through the plant

Hey Ginja, You bangin’ with the content in your videos. Each one very informative. I’m about to dethatch/aerate and over-seed with GCI TTTF/KBG seed and for the Sun Joe. Sod webworms destroyed my turf this season. If there is one thing Ginja I’ve learned from watching your videos is to make your lawn service really assess your lawn before putting down any application. I’ve had dead patches developing over the summer and none of the applications they were putting down was helping. I finally had someone come out to look at my lawn and they discovered sod webworms which explains why my turf was pulling right up. Had this been discovered sooner, my lawn may have recovered. They are coming out next week to apply insecticide. Will one application take care of this for now? Also, mind recommending a good starter fert for cool season grass - I live in upstate NY. Not sure if the Proheat will work as a starter fert but definitely will invest in this product moving forward. Decided to be my own DIYer and not continue with the service. And, did have soil test: potassium deficiency/phosphorus optimum

Questions for dealing with a cemetery plot. We have weeds all around my Father-in-law. We have been relatively successful with killing the weeds at his plot. The grass grows but the inconsiderate people who mow the cemetery keep running over the brand new grass we sowed with their tires. They either kill the newly seeded grass with the tire, or they drive their mowers like it the Indy 500 and bottom out right on top of his grave thus scalping the new grass. We will not be planting anymore grass this season. What weed killer would you recommend for pre-emergent and post-emergent knowing that I cannot afford to treat acre's of ground around my Father-in-law. Also, would you suggest a fertilizer for this time of the year to help keep the grass we do have alive and strong with Winter snow coming? Thank you for your time and consideration. 8135 N Dixie Dr, Dayton, OH 45414

Fertilizer no bull😀. You didn’t touch on the micro nutrients. I do the typical weed and feed and when the lawn quits growing and the weeds have out grown themselves I follow up with 16-16-16. Your videos are so practical thank you… have you done any videos on trying to grow grass near large evergreen trees? I feel like I’m fighting a losing battle, heavy compacted clay under large macrocarpa trees (our neighbours), we crown lifted the tree on our side. I winter sowed some seed while the soil was wet this winter and I feel that worked better than normal we’re zone 9b, now it’s spring here and I’ve just over sowed. Guessing I’ll need to deep water frequently to help the roots to sink into the clay soil. Anyway I’ve you’ve already done a video on growing grass under a tree canopy that would be great. Thank you
@pestandlawnginja3 жыл бұрын
I don't have a video on that. but there are a few issues. 1. cleaning up the needles weekly 2. shade, if you can't get more than 4 hours of direct sunlight most grass types will not grow there. 3. must have a sufficient amount of top soil present 4. must water a tad more due to the feeder roots of the tree competing for resources.

Soil Doc- check! Pro-Peat- check! But why the move from Kentucky Bluegrass? Water getting too expensive in Utah...?? From the benefit of your videos, I'm putting on a quarter to 1/3 of a pound of nitrogen each week except this week we're going to have 3 days above 95°F so I likely will skip this week. I also hit the 800 square feet with about a pound of sulfur and a pound of 60% potash. Trying to get below 7 pH but it's tough to do if I have to run the alkaline tap-water.

It rained cats and dogs like four out of five days it seemed like the last 3 weeks of July and then it's like today 100° with the flip-of-a-switch soon as August hit. I watched your FRAC Codes video so I got two different fungus controls which is tough when you only have 800 square feet in each bag is for 5,000 ft. Contractors around here put in a crab grass that looks too similar to Poa-Annua. It does not self-repair and it is just as temperamental as good quality Kentucky bluegrass. How do I know? Because I bought three rolls of sod of Kentucky Bluegrass and it's not even comparable how much more quality decide is over whatever the contractor put in. It is more difficult to get the side of Kentucky Bluegrass a healthier green color but I'll take that I can't see the soil and I also can't see Annie thach which is a carpet type of appearance over the crap the contractor put in.
