Those Commsec and NAB fees are outrageous. It makes no difference if a stock transaction is $100 or $10,000, no rational for a tiered price system (other than they can get away with it). Likewise on the exchange fees, I would guess that terminology is used to hide the fact they take a fee both on the buy/sell but also the actual rate used. Is this a market referenced rate on say, Bloomberg/Reuter’s or the bank’s default FX trading system? Buyer beware!
@devotionalganangal4 жыл бұрын
I read somewhere that all exchanges charge the brokers a fees for execution of a trade. The brokerages pass it on to the investors along with their own fees. That is what we have to pay. US market is quite big and has some kind of alternate revenue stream, so brokerages there can provide $0 fees.

Okay nice video and all but I'm sorry, I still do not understand( am I just dumb or what). I have been trying to get into the investing/trading scene for over a year now and it isn't working. About every trade slaps me in my face. Nearly impossible for me to catch more than a few points . I try to do top down analysis coupled with MTF analysis and fundamentals, but it doesn't seem to work. I say to myself, clearly I'm in the 90% that lose money, so I open a demo account, do my analysis, then take the opposite of what I would normally take(I know, it sounds stupid but I was desperate) and get the same result. I'm starting to feel hopeless, I head on to KZbin to do some learning, but I end up becoming even more confused with all the complex terms being thrown around. Can anyone just gimme whatever strategy he/she is using? I am ready to follow it to the letter. Help a frustrated noob out. P.S I'm sorry for the rant.
@charlottenoah43413 жыл бұрын
@John Fritsch You're right, I don't lose money every single trade, but my main problem is trying to let my runners run. Very rarely do I catch big moves . Instead they go a few pips in my direction, then go against me if when I try holding them. Also my entries could use a lot of improvement. A mentor would be amazing, but getting one is easier said than done. If it's not too much to ask, do you know any? I know this is asking too much.

AMAZING VIDEO. You have helped me find the solution to my dilemma. I’ve been pulling my hair out over choosing a brokerage account to invest in US stocks including Stake. I realised after this video why I felt conflicted about using it - the trust factor. I plan to put a lot of my money in US stocks and I want to know my money is secure which I struggled to feel with Stake. All I know for sure is, I’m for sure not trading US shares with ANZ!

how are you finding stake? recently had a look at their interface and dislike the lack of a stock code appearing in the search results - they display the name of the company, not the stock. very odd. weird even. also noticed stake offer fractional shares, which begs the question if stake register customers on the share registry or on their own internal systems. It doesn't feel like a proper broker because of that.

Positive things about Stake outweigh the negative. Still using both platforms. I like Fractional shares. I can dollar cost average into the market easier. I can reinvest the dividends easy as they are paid in USD back into your account.

Hello greetings from Finland. I had to comment because I felt sick and couldn't believe those commissions. Is competition outlawed there? I could buy your precious Thor industries stock for 31500€ (around 50 000 AUD) and commission would be 5 US dollar. FX trades are also so cheap that its really hard to notice them...lol. I recently bough stocks from Australia and commission was 0,15%... Seriously...wtf is going on there? It's extremely annoying trying to find a broker in Australia to day trade US stocks! especially if you only have $1,000-$2000 to start with. Not to mention the fees. The only brokers that cater for this are in other countries that aren't regulated by the US or Aus. Trading the ASX is not liquid enough for day trading or even swing trading.

@mazzaleen60914 жыл бұрын
IG is way cheaper and more trustworthy than stake. Unless you signed up before March 2020 to get the premium free for life, I would not recommend the broker. Stake earns its money off their aud to usd conversion however they also have premiums which make it more expensive than IG. For the same number of shares for the same company stake costs a greater net aud to purchase compared to ig. Their reasoning is that because you are only paying a conversion fee to convert all your aud once, the cost should balance out through your other fx fee-less trades. The 9 dollars a month upgrade benefits active traders, even so, there are many platforms like ib or zacks trade which are more regarded and reliable for day trading (tighter spreads) and the 9$ a month is money that you could have spent investing rather than throwing away ($108 a year). For buy and hold investing wothout the premium upgrade, their premiums are still higher than IG and as stated, the costs are offset through the multiple trades made without the multile conversion fees - thus, will not be utilised most of the time by buy and hold traders who will only trade once or twice a month. Unless you are interested in purchasing fractional shares, IG offers way more features and allows you to trade in asx (for the lowest comission available, tied with selfwealth) and in global stocks (commission free) rather than only US stocks like stake.

Unfortunately, the brokers here, and I've signed up with CMC Markets, have only 3900 US shares I can trade with, which isn't enough as there's so much activity over there, being highly volatile. @finsimple43965 жыл бұрын
First of all, the price of the share (stock) doesn't matter. If you invest $1000 into a company, it's $1000 regardless whether the stock is $0.10 or $1000. The only difference being that if it's $0.10, you own 10,000 shares. If it's a $1000 stock, you only own one. Most of the brokers only accept trades of above $500 AUD, nothing less. So if you were to buy a penny stock for $0.10, you have to buy at least 5,000 of them. Second, DO NOT invest in penny stocks. You WILL lose. It's gambling, there's no other way around it. You cannot effectively evaluate the businesses of penny stocks. Almost all of them fall to 0. I do not know Hamish, but I am almost certain he does not buy penny stocks. He follows the strategy of Warren Buffet, Benjamin Graham, Charlie Munger etc. of value investing and evaluating a quality business for the long term.
