Is the saw angle you mention also known as the Bevel angle?

Tom Damian compound miter. Bevel is the horizontal pitch of blade. Miter is the vertical pitch of blade.

Will this work for boards to join 2 boards together? For example a board 20 inch by 20 inch?

It will, for mitre cuts. Just take the total angle and divide by two yo get the angle for each piece.
